Parenting Conflict
When my son was born he was not delivered with a user manual attached to him. My husband and I went through endless trials and errors raising him and we are still learning. It can be quite an adventure – rewarding one moment, challenging the next split second. Raising a child is no different from marriage; it is all about give and take. Playing the role of a co-parent is no easy task. It requires [...]

Awarded BaoBei’s exemplary student (模 范 生)
Earlier this week, Ethan came home smiling from ear to ear. He only smiles that wide upon completing one stage and proceeding to the next. He has been in BaoBei for 9 months now and he is in stage E at the moment. I thought he has completed stage E and is already in F but he said not yet, a little bit more to go. I wonder then, why that big grin? Then he [...]

Sprinkling FUN time
I spoke to my Std 1, 2 and 3 students and asked them what do they do in school during art lessons. They answered me, “Not much”. They did mostly colouring. Not very creative aren’t they, the art lessons? The other day in the Studio, I cut some shapes out of hard board and placed them on a drawing block. I asked the kids to guess what we will be doing that day but none [...]

DIY Note pad
You know how kids love to scribble right? They’ll scribble on just about anything so the other day, I got the kids to make their own note pads for scribbling. All they need are papers (preferably colored) and 2 pieces hard construction paper for the cover. Decorate the note pad cover using cute paper punch. Paste as you wish. Tie them up together and the note pad is ready for scribbling!

Best playground hunt : Desa ParkCity
Play is very important to a child. A child can learn so much more through play than in the confinement of a classroom. I love bringing Ethan to the playground for that is the time I can really take my mind off ‘work’ and exercise a little. I not only bring him to the playground at home but also to other playgrounds in the Klang Valley. Of the many playgrounds we have been to, I [...]

How long should you breastfeed?
So this picture from Time.com sparks debate all over the world. She doesn’t look like a loving and caring mother breastfeeding her child they say.. What about the above? Loving enough? (Photo: Time.com) I’ve seen with my own eyes a mother breastfeeding her son who is almost as tall as her in IKEA. The mother is as petite as me for your information. People all over were staring at her like she have just committed [...]

Sometimes they drive me crazy
Today is such a day. Woke up in the morning and everything is fine. Did my morning routine (boil water, ironing etc) while the Daddy lay in bed a little while more. After having his milk he needed to poo. Told the Daddy to help him while I went downstairs to continue the rest of my morning routine. And then I heard it, the shouting battle between those two. I just don’t understand why. Ethan [...]

Learning through play
I give English and Math tuition at home for Primary school going kids. Ethan participates in all these classes ever since like ‘forever’.. The other day I was teaching the Primary 4 kids Multiplication. After class, Ethan requested to learn multiplication too. I told him it is good enough that he knows his Addition and Subtraction well and that Multiplication can wait. After all, he is not even FIVE yet! But he insisted to learn as [...]

Bento workshop for kids
Today, Darling and I accompanied Ethan to his school’s educational trip – bento making. When Ethan initially brought home the permission slip, he told us that ONE adult must accompany him. I volunteered to go but Darling said it would be nice to make it a family outing as well so we paid for 2 adults and 1 kid Ethan was given a bento set, a pair of gloves, a hair net and a goodie [...]

Stressfree Childhood – Is it possible?
I wrote this article during my writing stint for an online magazine last year. I wrote a total of 7 articles on parenting and contributed some craft ideas and then I had to stop due to time constraint. I shared all my published articles in another blog of mine but I’m shutting down that blog soon. Before I shut down that blog, I’ll share those articles here instead starting with the last post I wrote [...]

Mother’s Day craft: Crepe paper ‘pottery’
In the Studio yesterday, I wanted to get the kids to make a Mother’s Day gift since Mother’s Day is approaching. I couldn’t think of anything ‘outstanding’ yet so I shared with them this crepe paper ‘pottery’ project. I call it pottery because just like pottery with clay, you have to like roll the clay all around in circles before you can start shaping them. We used the large toilet paper roll. Glue a cardboard [...]

Petrosains KLCC
The last I went to Petrosains KLCC was end of 2006 when I was pregnant with Ethan. I was working with Smart Reader Kids then and was leading the kids for their field trip. The kids were 5 and 6 years old then but they did not enjoy the trip. We completed the entire place in less than 2 hours! Yesterday, when we planned to utilize the free Petrosains vouchers given by Disney Junior, I [...]

Easter Egg Mickey Mouse
Hi! I know we have been MIA for several days now. That is because we are all a lil’ under the weather right now. We’ve been cooped up at home and to kill our boredom, we did some crafts. Sponge Painting : Marine World
You know how sometimes the simplest of stuffs is BEST in life? While we are so caught up with technology and all, seldom do the kids get to go back to basic and do what WE did when we were younger. The kids in the Studio did sponge painting last week. I gave them sponges and get them to sponge blue paint all over the paper. Let dry. Then, using cute underwater creatures template, they [...]
