Crossing the Road – A guide for children

It’s never too early to teach our kids how to cross the road. Ethan and I always sing to this tune: Look left, right, left, Before you cross the street, Use your eyes, before you use your feet.. We were in IKEA today and Ethan proudly wanted to show his Daddy how he crosses the road..  Watch the light, watch the light, Red means stop and green means go. Press the button and watch the […]

How to make yarn bowl

The stormy weather calls for many rainy day crafts. We missed going to the playground for over 2 weeks now. Crafting comes handy now that we are indoor every evening. Ethan made a bowl out of string today. We are supposed to use wool yarn but I don’t have any at home so we improvised and use cotton string instead. This bowl is just perfect for party use. Just place your favourite snacks or candy […]

You learn, I learn. You no learn, I won’t too..

It has been 6-7 months now since Ethan first learned how to play the piano. Throughout these period, I have been able to keep up with the lessons and guide him in the absence of his piano teacher. Then slowly, he starts to be better than me, reading piano notes more fluently while I still struggle trying to recognize those notes. However, together, Ethan and I made good progress. He always makes sure that I […]

Every where we go there are ‘Halloween special promotions’ going on but let’s get back to basic and DIY some Halloween decor shall we? Raising a genius

“I tell you, I really think my 12 month-old boy is a genius! Just today, I was playing some music on my iPad and he came near to increase the volume! He can actually adjust the volume!” Sounds familiar? In this present world we live in, too many parents think we are raising an Einstein just because our kids can do things that we are incapable of when we were younger. As much as we wish […]

DIY Halloween Trick O Treat bag

Halloween is around the corner and we are in the mood in creating creepy stuffs for kids! It’s always good to CREATE rather than BUY as these thematic things can actually burn a hole in your pocket.  So today we are going to convert a plain brown lunch bag into a not so spooky Halloween trick-0r-treat bag.  DIY Halloween Trick O Treat Bag First I help Ethan draw a cat, skull, spider, witch or anything […]

Hands on learning experience

Mid Autumn Festival is just around the corner but I have yet to buy any mooncakes. This year, the number of people making their own mooncakes shoot sky high due to the exorbitant prices of commercial mooncakes. Ethan got the chance to try making mooncakes when we were invited to sample Resort World Genting’s mooncakes collection. Read all about it here. I’ve tried shaping mooncake too last year in West Lake Garden, Sunway Resort Hotel […]

Recycle your eco-friendly shopping bags and old CDs

If you are a blogger who loves attending events, you are sure to have lots and lots of eco-friendly shopping bags at home. I have like a million of them! :P Apart from attending events, we bloggers get to attend movie screenings too aye? That only means that I do not purchase VCDs/DVDs as often as I used to anymore. In fact, I have so many CDs/VCDs/DVDs at home that is full of scratches that […]

Together, great things can happen

Have you ever wondered why educational toys for kids are mostly focused on ‘building’ or puzzle-like concept? In games such as the one shown above, you’ll need to connect more pieces in order to create something. Threading beads is also popular with kids. They strive to try threading those beads as long as possible; with the longer the connection, the more satisfied and happier they are with their achievement. Building blocks is another must have […]

Do we really need cell phones in school?

I am horrified to read about the decision to allow mobile devices to be brought to school starting next year in our country. When dining out, just look around you. Most children are no longer interacting with each other these days. They all got their head burried into their mobile IT gadgets. A reunion of any sorts no longer holds any virtue of togetherness. What we get these days is a group of humans put […]

Spare the rod and spoil your child?

To spank or not to spank? It is an age-old question. I would love to tell parents not to spank their child but I can’t, because to discipline a child we need to look at the complete picture. But what I like to say is if you need to spank, please do so only on the bum or hands; never hard enough to leave scars or unsightly marks of your handprint or the rod. Handprints […]

Glycemic Index: Measure of changes to the sugar level in the bloodstream of a child

*48 hours sticky post. Scroll down for latest updates* The other day in Ethan’s paed office, I read in the HealthToday magazine regarding GL. It was an eye-opener article. Do you know sugar can reduce the learning capacity and adversely affect school children’s grades? […]

When my son was born he was not delivered with a user manual attached to him. My husband and I went through endless trials and errors raising him and we are still learning.
