Cook with Ayden: Simple Fried Rice
We have left over rice from yesterday so I thought, “let’s fry it” and immediately our Little Chef Ayden said he wanted to learn to fry rice. That’s when I realised I have never teach him this simple survival dish – FRIED RICE. It will come in handy when he leaves home to further his studies in the distant future.
My rule for fried rice is pretty simple; just make sure to use multiple coloured chopped vege and have at least meat or prawn in it. Egg is a must when frying rice, at least for me.
For today’s fried rice, we decided not to use dark soy sauce.
Ingredients:
Refrigerated cooked rice
Oil
Chopped Garlic
Cubed carrot
Thinly sliced long beans
Corn
Prawn (marinated with soy sauce, honey and pepper)
Eggs
Salt to taste
Method:
Heat oil in pot
Fry garlic till fragrant
Add carrot, long beans and corn. Fry till soft.
Add rice. Mix well.
Make a hole in the middle.
Add egg. Let it cook for a while. Cover with rice. Mix well.
Add salt and mix thoroughly.
Make a hole in the middle again.
Add prawn and cook till pink.
Mix well.
Serve.
Here’s Little Chef Ayden’s tutorial video (in Bahasa Malaysia) on how to fry rice using his Philips All in One Cooker:

The prawns look lusciously big. :D
He is so adorable. So young you have trained him already. Ha :D
Oh my! Those huge prawns! Cost a bomb here, fresh from the market. RM40 a kg…used some in my nyonya curry laksa – in my blogpost today!
Oooo. I love Ayden’s fried rice. So simple yet so good and tasty. Love the look of the big prawns.
His fried rice is so delicious with all the colours and big prawns! i love that with lots of spicy sambal.
You are such a good and far sighted mummy to plan for his survival in future. You made me realise that my mother had really groomed me in the kitchen & housekeeping since a kid too. I am confident in cooking today though not very good like my wife’s culinary skills. It is good enough for survival like you said. Kudos Mama Merryn.
ahhh, cube carrots & long beans in fried rice, memories!
The fried rice looks like those from 5 star hotel kitchen. I always enjoy reading your cooking posts with the boys.
