Battle of the Sweet Potatoes

Last weekend while doing our grocery shopping, we saw sampling of some Indonesian sweet potatoes. We tasted it and it was very nice. Sweet and fragrant but then again, don’t all sweet potatoes are sweet? Looking at the price, I just brushed it off and proceeded to get my usual Japanese potatoes that is much cheaper BUT this Darling is a sucker to all these promoters. I don’t understand why. They are not even sweet young thing but motherly looking aunties selling potatoes! He insisted for us to purchase the Indonesian potatoes instead of my regular Japanese fare but I insisted to get my Japanese potatoes so in the end we got both >_<
Battle of the sweet potatoes

Indonesia sweet potato VS Japan sweet potato

The Indonesia potato is priced at over RM10 for that pack of 2 tuber while my Japan sweet potato is only RM3 for those 3. Common sense also can tell you who is the wiser one in our family :P

To further prove that I made the right choice, I decided to steam both potatoes so we can taste the difference. This is what being married to a stubborn wife like me is ^_^

Japanese vs Indonesian

Japan VS Indonesia

Japanese vs Indonesian potatoes

All done, nicely steamed.

Japanese sweet potatoes

Appearance wise, the Japanese sweet potato doesn’t look very inviting. They look bruised.

Indonesia sweet potatoes

While the Indonesia sweet potato fared so much better with its appealing tone of golden yellow.

Sweet potatoes

Now for the acid test. Taste wise I’d say both are equally sweet. The Indonesia sweet potato is more fragrant compared to the Japan sweet potato but texture wise, Japan’s potato is smoother.

I asked Darling if it is worth forking out the extra RM for the Indonesia sweet potato and he said no, once is enough.

There. Wife 1 – 0 Hubby.

Thrifty wife wins! That means Darling wins also what as I am helping him to save money. What is becoming of me? My life is reduced to debating on potatoes! >_<
