Chinese New Year Lunch @ Hatten Hotel Melaka

Gong Xi Fa Cai. It is the 9th day of Chinese New Year today. Firecrackers are showering the skies as I am typing this entry. My boys have no problem sleeping through it all though :)

On the 5th day of Chinese New Year, my friend Sidney invited me to join him and his mom for a Lou Sang lunch at the hotel he was staying. He was staying right smack in the heart of Melaka City at Hatten Hotel Melaka.

When we arrived at Chatterz All Day Dining Restaurant, this beautiful abalone and refreshing fruity Yee Sang greeted us.

Such a lovely presentation of the yee sang with sweet fruit balls and fruit strips to complement the lavish abalone. Lou Sang at Hatten Hotel Melaka

Ayden could not resist the allure of the beautiful yee sang and without my knowledge has stolen some of those golden pillows to eat! >_<

I stood there at awe admiring this attractive yee sang. Key ingredients such as mango and apple strips, pomelo, grapes, watermelon balls, honey melon balls, jellyfish and abalone resulted in such a wonderful combination.

Here we are tossing to great health and a prosperous new year with Sidney, his mom and Hatten Executive Sous Chef Yee Weng Ding.

Hatten yee sang

My first serving of the refreshing fruitylicious abalone yee sang. I had countless servings of this as we were served the full portion. We are not complaining though as we really enjoyed this appetising yee sang and cleared the entire plate in no time.

walnut black bean soup

I was pleasantly surprised as there were walnuts in the black bean chicken soup, giving this soup a hearty and nutty goodness.

Our favourite that afternoon is this silky smooth cod fish in light superior sauce. It was so easy for the boys especially Ayden to eat this boneless fillet. A scrumptious and healthy dish, we did not hesitate a single bit to finish this.

Salted egg yolk is the craze these days and these prawns served in a rich sauce, made from salted egg yolks are just perfect. Bursting in our mouth with luxurious combination of the salted egg yolks and butter milk just kept us wanting for more.

The braised broccoli with sea cucumber, dried oyster, mushroom and black sea moss is a must have at any Chinese New Year meal. I knew I’ll love it from the moment I spotted my favourite sea cucumber in there :D

We ended our sumptious lunch with this roasted duck with crispy skin and moist and delicious meat.

It was our first time dining here and I must say I am very impressed. The yee sang is on par if not better than those I had in KL. Will definitely bookmark this place for future celebrations.

Sea cucumber is my favourite too! The prawns too. How to lou sang with balls in the dish? Wouldn’t the balls roll off the plate when all of you are jabbing and tossing the ingredients? ;)

Haha Mun, those fruitballs did not roll off the plate :D

My favourite would be the salted egg yolk custard sauce prawns – looks gorgeous…and the duck, of course. I love duck!

You know what Arthur? William and I dont really fancy duck but the one here is surprisingly nice. The skin is crisp, the meat is tender and there is no unpleasant smell to it. We actually ate quite a lot.
