The boys’ first ice skating experience
Last week, schools were suddenly closed due to the haze. With 3 days off and nothing to do, Ethan’s friends planned an outing to go ice skating. His friends are all pro-skaters while both my boys have never skated but are keen to learn.
So off to the ice skating rink they went. They took advantage of the early bird special whereby if you enter before noon, you’ll get RM5 off the ticket price. We paid RM25/person for the entire day.
I requested for a picture before they entered the rink. Need to capture their eager faces before they start falling down on ice. Haha.
Ayden tried standing with his skates on and confidently told me it is easy peasy.
But when he got into the ice rink, he got nervous as the ice is slippery. So I got him a penguin to hold on to. The penguin cost RM30 per hour.
He was very happy with the penguin but I see no progress as kids tend to hold onto it and become dependent on it. I told him to stabilize himself and slowly let go of the penguin. I pushed the penguin a feet ahead of him and encouraged Ayden to walk/skate towards it.
It took a lot of courage to let go of the penguin and walk on that slippery ice but Ayden did it and in no time, he is walking on ice.

While I was busy watching over Ayden, Ethan’s friends guided him to skate. Ethan learned very fast and before I know it, he is already skating (though not as fast and stable as his friends).
Not bad for a first timer I would say.Â
They went to KFC for lunch and continued skating till late evening.Â
My feet were aching by then but the boys showed no sign of stopping. This is only my second time skating. The first time I went ice skating was 20 years ago with Darling. I had to force Ethan and Ayden to leave as they have drum lessons that evening. Reluctantly they left but not before making me promise to bring them skating again in the near future. Just thinking about it scares me because these boys can skate from morning till closing time @_@
That Ayden always looks so very excited whatever he gets himself into. Ethan looks kind of cool…slumber aje! LOL!!!
Wow! they sure are fast learners! Just let them skate the whole day next time while you go shopping.
awww!! CUTEST! i was like them, too when i’d first discovered skating. i went almost every weekend and skated hours and hours! ayden’s so big now. goodness!
The boys had so much fun. I wish I am a kid again. Lolol. The first time I ice skated was at the age 13 years old when I followed my late mother back to her hometown in Bangkok. They already had Olympic sized rink back then.
I bet your boys will go skiing soon! You are the most supportive mummy. Kudos!
