Learning the drums at 41 years old | Mama RockStar wannabe

Ayden is finally in preschool this year. This means I have 4 hours of daily free time on weekdays.

I did not feel much change in my routine earlier this year as I was busy rushing to complete customers’ orders of my Chinese New Year cookies.

Reality sank in after the Chinese New Year holidays when both the boys returned to school. I was left with FOUR hours of FREEDOM a day by myself. FOUR freaking hours to call my own! I’ve not had such luxury since Ethan was born. You see, I spent all my time on Ethan but when he finally went to school, I delivered Ayden and my sleepless nights continued. I had to juggle between Ethan and Ayden and were kept busy with those two until this year when I finally get 4 hours of free time yet I was lost and did not know what to do during those four hours.

As I usually blog after the boys go to sleep at night, I thought it will be a good idea to switch to daytime blogging while they are both in school. However, my mojo just won’t work during the day and I ended up blogging after midnight again when my mind works best.

Not wanting to turn idle and rot at home, I continued learning the drums which Ayden challenged me to start late last year only to stop early this year due to the overwhelming CNY bakes. I tried playing on my own, referring to YouTube when I am lost. The boys guided me too when they get home from school sometimes when I really can’t comprehend what I am playing.

A week after doing my best learning, I am finally able to master this song called “SONG 2”.

I usually record the boys playing the drums but today, Ethan recorded me playing my very first complete song.

You can’t teach old dog new tricks doesn’t apply in my case as here I am, learning the drums at the age of 41 (well I’m actually turning 42 this year but it will be in December so I’m legit still 41 okay).

Actually iShy but this is quite an achievement for me, a totally non musical person to be able to play the drums so watch this video to see this aspiring Mama RockStar. Haha.
