Being Fit: Pure Luck or Lots of Hard work?
A recent conversation I had with an acquaintance had her saying this to me, “You are lucky to not grow sideways after having kids”.
I beg to differ. LUCK has nothing to do with me growing sideways or not.
I put on over 20kg during each of my pregnancies. Being only 4’9″, the additional 20kg was really taxing on me. Closer to the end of my pregnancy, I waddled around like a penguin as I was no longer capable of walking gracefully like a human with that much weight on me.
This was me when I was 7 months preggy with Ayden.
Only SEVEN month and already I was that huge. At the end of my pregnancy I weighed almost 70kg, for BOTH pregnancy! You’d thought I’d learnt my lesson the first time around and not put on so much weight during my second pregnancy but it got worse. I put on more weight with Ayden compared to when I was carrying Ethan, even my gynae was concerned
It was tough getting rid of the excess baby weight. Both my kids were delivered via c-sect hence I was not able to do heavy exercise post delivery. Actually I never got the chance to do any exercise back then as I was too busy mothering the two boys and wifing the husband (whatever that means ).
Being a blogger, I meet people a lot. Not being in my best shape somehow affects my self-esteem. Age is another factor. I’m going to join the big 4-0 club soon and with that, I can feel my metabolism plunging into the abyss.
All it takes is a cupcake for dessert and I’ll wake up with a major muffin top the next day!
If I were to leave it to LUCK, I bet I’ll still be waddling around today but NO. I decided to do something about it.
I bring the boys to the playground every evening but I have to look after Ayden making me unable to do any major workout at all. Going down the slide or sitting on the see-saw with him do not burn much calories.
Thankfully, Darling understands my need to keep fit and does his best to be home early every day. These days, I’ll go to the playground with the boys first and when Darling returns home, he’ll join us too. He’ll take over Ayden so I can go for my daily 2km jog. I try to jog at least 5 days a week.
I do push ups, sit ups and squats EVERY.SINGLE.DAY!
I was 44kg before I had kids. I now weigh 45kg. That 1 stubborn kg loves me very much that it refused to leave me
So anyway, yeah, I do believe it is not luck but pure determination and strong discipline that keeps me fit and my weight in check today.
As we aged, it is important to workout not only to keep fit but also to avoid losing our muscle mass and agility.
I wanna spend many more quality years with Darling and the boys so I’ll make sure to keep on exercising and stay healthy always

You’re expecting and growing sideways? Yaaaaaa!!!! Bet you’d love a girl this time around. Don’t stop exercising, good for the baby. Hehehehehe!!!! Don’t ask me how much I weigh – 3 figures! :(
Yes! That is the spirit!!
I also started to exercise this year with more times in the morning when kids are not around.
It is all hard work for me. I do agree that as we aged, it is hard to shed more weight.
wow! you do squats too? you must have very firm and toned legs. good for you!
