Craft for Children: Sand Name Art
It is craft time again. I love crafting using natural materials. Today, the boys did sand art.
Kids need to explore to learn. They need to FEEL how grainy the sand is and by feeling is not buying them the ‘TOUCH and FEEL book’ but letting them PLAY real sand.
After they are done playing, it’s craft time. I got them to collect the sand in the big bottle for our craft activity.
Using glue, I wrote Ayden’s name on a piece of paper. He did not know it yet so this is going to surprise him later.
I let him pour sand onto the paper, making sure he covers his entire name.
And… when he pours the sand out, he sees his name! Surprise! :D
Watch the video here to see him and big brother Ethan in action:

Ayden must be so surprised to see his name on the paper. Mother Magic!
Ooooooo….I love that first pic, so very nice – the two, the colours, everything. Curious Ayden! :D
Haha! This is a really good idea. However, it can be hard to find just sand like that though.
I remember when I was little (about 30 years ago) we had sand pits in every public park so children can play in the sand. However, it seems like recently those places has disappeared. I heard it was coz the sand can attract cats and the cats can poo and there’s a parasite which can affect pregnant mothers which causes the fetus harm so they stopped making the sand pits.
Agree with you. Kids need to play and expore other than hard learning.
Nice sand craft. Ayden was enjoying himself there.
Kids nowadays only play computer games and iPad!
You are very creative when it comes to art, I shall turn to you if I have problems in this part when my son goes to school soon, heheheh :p
Finding sand like pit like this is the most difficult part for this craft >_<
