His first casting call and Transformers SideSwipe
Last Saturday was Ethan’s kindergarten Sports Day. He has been practicing hard the entire week not only for the sports activity but also for marching and dance performance. He was extremely excited to attend the Sports Day as his teacher promises him that if they do well in the marching and dance performance she’ll give them a present each.
Alas, come Thursday that little boy started feeling unwell. He got the flu. Went to bed and woke up even worse. He skipped school on Friday hoping that he’ll recover on time for Saturday’s Sports Day but unfortunately, he did not with fever creeping in and the doctor advised him to stay home. He cried as he really wanted to perform that dance routine he learned so well and was really determined to get that present from his teacher :( I felt sad for him too as this was his ONE and ONLY chance at experiencing Sports Day as he has only started Kindergarten last month and this being his final year before he enters Primary One next year.
My boy down and out..
Not knowing how to make him feel better I requested for him to perform for me his dance routine. I said I’ll be his private audience and if he can perform it well, I’ll buy him a gift. That put a sparkle into his watery eyes and immediately he danced for me. I gave him a standing ovation after his ‘performance’ and he laughed. There’s nothing more precious than seeing your unwell kid smiling and laughing :)
When he got better we brought him shopping for his gift. The father was being generous and brought him to Toys R Us. Immediately Ethan ran to the Transformers’ section. After his first Transformers Autobot the other day, he is now keen to get several more -.-
Transformers Sideswipe
Vicky thought us that red logo Transformers are the good guys while the grey logo Transformers are the bad ones. Ethan wanted a bad one to fight with the good one he has at home so he chose this Sideswipe. Both Ethan and I know nothing about Transformers as we don’t watch them on TV nor the big screen. Nevertheless, he and the Daddy enjoy playing them every night!
Ethan has just hinted that his next collection will be the BumbleBee and I was just about to faint but luck was on his side as on that day itself, he was called to attend a casting session for a commercial. I had just submitted a video profile of him earlier and it was a surprise to get a call from them asking Ethan to attend the casting session.
This is the video that caught their attention. It was recorded at night before he goes to bed while still having the flu. Watch his profile video here:
We sent him for the casting session today and he got the part.
Recording will be tomorrow and to encourage him to do well, we promised him that he may use part of his earnings tomorrow to buy the BumbleBee. The rest will have to go into his Savings Account and needless to say, he is as happy as can be!
He has to skip class tomorrow though to attend the recording session. At times like this I wish he is still home-schooled as I missed the flexibility we had back then…

I told you, didn’t I? You get one and it will be the beginning of lots more – you’ll spent a fortune on these things…like me. Mine was Barbies!!! Good luck, Ethan!!! You’re gonna be a star!!!!

Ethan is indeed lucky to be chosen to be a star in the commercial. How nice to have this type of experience that not every kid may have.
