Taekwondo with Ethan
Ethan participated in his school’s talent night last Sunday. The event is supposedly to start at 7pm but the children were told to be at school by 4.30pm. Parents were not allowed to be around. The gate only opened to parents/public at 6pm.
We wanted to send Ethan to school later but this boy was afraid his teacher may not like it and insisted to be there by 4.30pm. The children were served fried rice and continued to wait until 7pm.
The Daddy sneaked upstairs at 7pm to give Ethan a burger as we noticed that the event won’t be starting so soon.
We bought two tickets at RM30 each to attend the Talent Night. Young children Ayden’s age don’t require tickets to enter. Seats are free seating and parents with young children took up the entire row for their little ones. Common sense will tell you that if these young children come in for free, they should be sharing a seat with the parents but no, these parents think that they can take up the entire row just because they can.
In the end, many other parents were forced to stand behind as there were not enough seats for us.
The event started late. To make matters worse, there were countless speeches that takes forever to end. After those long winded speeches, there was an auction. By the time the kids get to perform, it was already 8.30pm.
Ethan participated in taekwondo demonstration. His team was number 16 to perform. They only get to perform after 9.30pm. Thank goodness the Daddy gave him a burger at 7pm otherwise that poor boy will definitely be hungry with the last meal being the fried rice at 4.30pm.
One thing about attending talent shows or any stage shows these days, it is impossible to see what is happening on stage. This was my view from where I was seated:
We pay money to see handphones in the air…
Anyway, I am glad I hung around during Ethan’s taekwondo practice the week before and managed to record a video of their rehearsal. At least I get to see them in action because it was impossible to see them properly on the actual night.
Here’s a video of their rehearsal. They were kicking to Jay Chou’s song. It was so much nicer then because on the actual day it was only some sentimental music accompanying them.
Overall I would say that this event was badly managed especially on the seating and time management as the kids had to wait 5 hours before they can perform!
How bad. I hate attending to a long winded and delayed event. Some more involved kids. Kids, not only parents could be restless with the delay.
But glad it was over now. Ethan can relax this weekend.
I’m glad it is over too. I am not too fond of it dragging way too late into the night. Little Ayden was getting really restless and tired. It is almost past their bedtime too.
I hate those parents with phones and iPads taking videos/photos.. Really annoying… They should be banned.. Or they should be cane on sight..
LoL at the ‘should be cane on sight’!
I hate speeches. Every ass loves to hear itself bray. Who’s listening, anyway? Everybody else would be talking away…and yes, those smartphone photographer-wannabes. There should be a ban on those at all event – just one professional photographer – you want snapshots, buy from him. So irritating!!!
I totally agree. Everybody with a handphone is a photographer nowadays. There is a total lack of ethic on how to attend stage shows these days.
anak you kecik sangat…. have to zoom in baru nampak
That was a terrible long wait. I would have screamed and walked out but you had no choice & had to stay on. I am sure many parents must have lashed the organizers after that night.
Smartphones have become a nuisance sometimes when parents used them to babysit their kids while dining in restaurants. Even at weddings, the long wait for the bridal couple to arrive have prompted the guests to play their phones, FB and now catch Pokemons! Time has changed, so we adhere by no choice.
Is a trend to show off the phone and tablet as high as possible…siapa depan dia dapat oohh.. So sad, I have experienced this several times.
During Sam’s kinddie concert, parents were not allowed to go in front for photo taking and we all very “obedient” :P
I think the organizer should do something to make sure those with ticket have their seats and standing during performance period is prohibited.
For children to wait for 5 hours before they can perform is really too much!
