Tooth Enamel Chipping Off in Toddler’s Teeth
We brought Ayden to the dentist end of May for his first tooth filling. You can watch the video of Ayden’s first tooth filling procedure here:
Back then, the dentist wasn’t sure what causes Ayden’s teeth to erode. He suspected Ayden’s teeth grinding habit while sleeping to be the culprit but he wasn’t sure.
Today, we brought Ayden back to the dentist again as we discovered 4 new ‘holes’ on his teeth. Upon further checks, the dentist thinks Ayden suffers from a condition where his tooth enamel will peel or chip off. There is a scientific name for this but it was so long that I can go to Singapore and back in time for the dentist to finish saying it In layman terms, it means the enamel is not able to absorb minerals hence they are weak and will chip or peel off the teeth like snowflakes
This condition is hereditary but Darling and I are not sure where Ayden got it from. I have nice teeth. See ->
I’ve always suspected something is wrong as the ‘holes’ on Ayden’s teeth forms at very odd places such as the surface of the teeth, near the roots or some strange areas where cavities is not the culprit. Today, we were told that these are not holes but merely enamels chipping off. Sobs.
Anyway, the dentist told us he will fill 2 holes today and told us to come back again for the rest.
Ayden was very cooperative during the entire procedure. I thought I saw the dentist did THREE filling instead of TWO. True enough, at the end of the procedure, the dentist told us he managed to fill up 3 holes as Ayden is able to cooperate BUT he will only charge us for 2 filling, with the 3rd being complementary because we initially agreed on doing only 2 holes today. Wow. What a nice chap this young man is. There is still such dentist around?
I did ask the dentist if there is any food supplement or anything I can do to improve Ayden’s teeth condition but apparently there is nothing we can do except monitor his teeth to avoid further damage and hope that his permanent teeth will not be affected T_T
Ayden is not allowed to drink or eat for an hour after the procedure. Total bill for today is RM90.
Dentist???!!! *faints* :D
Oh dear! Poor Ayden has to suffer at such young age. I also hope (and pray) that his permanent teeth would not have such problem.
Ayden is such good boy. I am not sure my Jamie would be that cooperative!! Feed him medicine already a big headache. I am not surehe would want to open his mouth to the dentist!! Haha.
The dentist is so nice. He must be very pleased that Ayden is so cooperative.
Ayden is such a good boy! I cannot imagine if it’s my Aden, sure he bising bising one, hehe!
Taking good care of out teeth is very very important, and must start from young! Glad that I came across Toothspa product, a bonus in my daily oral care ;)
