Delicious Persimmon Soup
Persimmons are an excellent source of fiber. They are very high in fructose though so have to keep reminding myself to eat them in moderation.
The persimmon season is short so whenever they are in season, I’ll make sure to buy them in boxes as I super love them.
But do you know persimmons make excellent soup as well? It pairs well with almost any bone broth. All you need is some persimmons and your favourite chicken/pork soup.
Today I’m going to share with you the simplest yet very delicious persimmon soup recipe. Boil your favourite bone broth as you normally would.
My favourite would be chicken soup with the above ingredients ie whole chicken, celery, carrot, big onion and potato. These are the same ingredients I used to boil chicken stock for Ayden’s porridge or noodle base when he was younger.
Cut the top of a persimmon.
Scoop the flesh out.
Mash (or chop until fine) 1/3 of the flash and scoop it back into the persimmon bowl.
Add the rest of the chunky persimmons into the chicken soup during the last half hour of boiling.
Scoop some soup into the persimmon bowl and serve warm.
22 months old Ayden enjoying this super delicious persimmon soup.
The persimmon makes this soup really sweet naturally. The mashed flesh also gives more texture to the soup. What is best about this is after you are done drinking your soup, you can eat the bowl too :)
I rarely see Persimmon here.. even in malls… i guess the last time we had it was on New Years Day… according to my mom, this was her favorite fruit and always requesting me to buy her but I just dunno where to buy it here… maybe it’s seasonal
It is seasonal. We get it like short while too.
Can cook soup? Sweet? Here, we have the dayak brinjal – looks like that but sour. Love it!
Oh, I’ve not tried dayak brinjal. Bet it is nice to cook with fish curry?
I never knew persimmon can be used in soup. I prefer to eat it just like that. Hehe. Ayden is such good boy, eat what ever you cook. It is good that he loves soup. My Jamie started to be choosy eater now. Headache.
It’s really nice when added into soups as it is very sweet. Ayden is no problem. He’ll even eat the persimmons on its own. It is Ethan I’m doing all these for. He doesn’t know there’s persimmon in this soup and gulps it down like a hero. Of coz for Ethan, I don’t serve the soup in persimmon bowls :D
When I saw the featured image on my FB feed, I thought you made Portuguese egg tart XD
Hahaha! No… I don’t have an oven so that is quite impossible.
Where you got this recipe? This really my first heard and saw persimmon soup!
Actually this soup is quite common last time. I guess people kind of forgotten about it :)
looks very good. unique. but one small fruit bowl enough? hehe.
That’s something new to me!! I tried apple soup but not persimmon. Would prefer the traditional soups like wintermelon and etc…..
Oooooo looks yummy and interesting.
I love persimmons too!
I love to eat persimmons too so I heart ache to see them cut up to make soup as I think they are more delicious to be eaten just as a fruit. But for Ethan, ok lah, have to camouflage the fruit in the soup for him to eat it.
