Bernama Radio24 – The Lounge @ 8Twelve LIVE with Gerard Ratnam

We went LIVE on 93.9FM at 9.15pm tonight. It was seriously LIVE! I thought there would be like a pre-recorded session but NOoooooo, it was LIVE!

The first thing I did when we arrived was to take a “I was HERE” pic and tweeted it out. Once the tweet went live my heart started palpitating and legs went wobbly.

Me, Jun Sern, Shawn and Ethan

Shawn and the producer, Kok Jun Sern chatted with us before we went on Air. Since this interview is going to be LIVE and not pre-recorded we were reminded not to use any vulgarities, touch on racism nor politics. No problem at all for us as we don’t attach ourselves to any of those.

Even the anchorman Gerard himself came out to say hi and get to know Ethan a bit before we proceeded into the Studio for the interview.

I had my phone with me at all times. I thought we were not allowed to have our phone around but to my surprise they said it’s okay provided that I put it on SILENT.

Once in the Studio, my heart is beating so LOUD I swear the listeners can HEAR it! >_< Jun Sern said Ethan is the first kid to go on AIR in Bernama Radio24. Weeeeeeeee!

If last time in KidZania Ethan was very eager to try the radio station but could not as they were not fully operational then, today Ethan got to experience the REAL thing! I am so glad they allowed Ethan and Darling to enter with me. We were surprised when they said that we can ALL enter and even be interviewed together!

I croaked in the beginning of the interview. My voice can hardly come out. Whenever Gerard asked me a question, I have this whole lot of answers in my head but I just could not string my words out! Argh! >_<

The interview was done spontaneously. They wanted it to be done naturally. We were not given any questions beforehand. Lagi lah gelabah ME!

Ethan got his chance at the mic to announce the blog’s URL. Hehe..

I’m so proud of Ethan tonight for the fact that he sat there quietly without disturbing us for the entire 45 minutes we were in there only speaking when Gerard asked him questions. So, so proud of him!

Darling did not expect to be interviewed too but ended up doing better than me @_@ He was asked why I did not drive and I remembered him answering something about me not being able to park the car properly. I also remembered him being asked how it is like being the husband to a *cough cough* ‘fehmes’ blogger and remembered him answering he’s okay with it as he finds it interesting to be able to participate in the activities that revolves around my blogging commitment.

My heart melts when Gerard asked Darling regarding the days when I was down with depression. I shared with Gerard earlier how I suffered from depression in the early years of being a full time stay at home mother to Ethan. Darling answered that he tried to be there for me. He tried to listen to my needs. He tried to be a better listener. I choked that instant as I recalled how hard he tried to help me out of depression.

I’m thankful that I have a very supportive husband. It was a tough period of my life but together we managed to get through it.

Thinking back, my life has really changed for the better. Had I not found Nuffnang, I’ll still be the same old bored and depressed me. Through blogging I’ve found a new circle of friends. Someone I can relate to. A medium to express myself.

In a blink of an eye, it was already 10pm, the end of our segment. We were presented with goodie bags on our way out. I find it extremely cute that they took the trouble to get Ethan a smaller goodie bag. It made him feel special! hehe..

I’m sorry if I sounded nervous. I tried to do better but my head is just too stupid that the words got stuck in it >_<

Thanx to Daniel ‘s tweet, I recalled one thing I said when asked about monetizing your blog:

Yes, I said, “Don’t ever start a blog with a thinking that you want to quit your day job. Let passion drive your blog and not money”

The rest, I can’t remember at all as I was seriously damn nervous.

Thank you Nuffnang for the opportunity. Thank you Bernama Radio24 for having us. Most of all, thank you ALL who tuned it tonight. You guys rock!

So nice to hear your hubby say that he tried to be there for you, to hear you out and provide you with all the support you needed. Veli sweet…

Oh and I heard the part where Ethan said submerryn.com in his teeny tiny voice…SO KIUT LAAAAAAAA!!!

True! True! Once a blogger becomes a slave to money, the blog loses its soul, its identity…and becomes one of the many run-off-the-mill money-spinning blogs – you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

Sigh!!! Can’t receive that station here…. At least I can get to hear what you sound like. LOL!!!

  • //

You really seems nervous…I like the last part ““Don’t ever start a blog with a thinking that you want to quit your day job. Let passion drive your blog and not money””

It was passion and loves of my family that drives me in writing. I would like to document everything that I went through for my child to look at it in the future. I also want to share and learn from others. Money only comes after all this…It really impressed me when you rejected the alcohol advertorial. You are such a great mummy and blogger. Gambateh and all the best merryn!

  • //

Okay…no speaker at my office. Cannot hear your gelabah voice…LOL!!!

Great job! Watching this clip reminds me of my past recording experience. I was in US and followed few gwai lo friends to do a recording. It’s not live. My speech was just “Merry Christmas from Ann Khee from Malaysia”. So short and simply. But like you said, extreme gan jiong! Anyway it’s a great experience :D

  • //

Merryn, you are awesome!!!….First time hearing your voice on air…You are great. You are being yourself, being Submerryn! Love your quote on ‘let passion drive your blog’. You gave lots of motivation to lots of mummies out there, including me! Well done, Merryn!
