Potluck Dinner at Chris’
I started blogging around 8 years ago. I’ve made many new friends along the way. Some are merely acquaintances I see online but some are real friends even offline. One of them is Chris and she invited me over to her beautiful home last weekend for dinner.
Ayden got comfortable straight away with his new friend. They even shared toys. Haha.
Ayden and Kikko.
See? Aww… He kept himself occupied playing with either Kikko or her father. I can’t remember his name but I think it is Koji if I am not wrong. I don’t even know the above is Kikko or her dad. They both look alike to me ok. But I think that is the father.
Here’s the rest of the gang. Some are preparing food, some tengah curi makan. Haha.
Talking about food, let’s see what we had that evening.
Chris prepared this Fried Belacan Chicken.
I love the aroma, the crunch, the taste and everything about it. The picture above is only the first serving. She kept topping it up because we kept polishing it off. The meat is so tender that my kids can’t stop eating this.
Chris also made Yam Cake.
I asked her how come her yam cake is nicer than those bought outside and her answer is simply coz she doesn’t skimp on ingredients. That is so true because her yam cake is bursting with chunky yam and topped generously with choy poh and dried shrimps. She made a huge tray of this so I get to tapao some home. So happy.
Jennifer brought this delectable Penang lobak that she personally made with her mom. Oh man, we are so lucky to get to eat her mother’s air tangan eventhough I’ve never met her (the mom) in person. This lobak alone can feed an entire football team. So banyak!
Eddy prepared this exquisite Prawn and Pomelo Salad. The countless number of prawns in there is unbelievable! Each time I dig my spoon in there, at least 5 prawns will jump out of the bowl. Darling and I love this dish very much.
Chris was also very nice to prepare spaghetti for the kids as she knows my boys simply love pasta. We adults got curi makan this also. Jennifer also prepared Penang Assam Laksa for us. It is such a tedious job, I don’t have the patience for this. I mean, look at all the slicing required. I bet she spent the entire day just to slice things up.
She also brought along Spring Rolls to be eaten with the laksa.
My bowl of Assam Laksa is simply divine. It is better than that famous Penang laksa we had in Klang. Jennifer credits the awesome gravy to Laksalicious’ in Penang as she got it from there during her recent trip back.
Eating like a Penangite, dipping the spring roll in the laksa gravy but in my case I actually threw the entire spring roll into my bowl. And then I realised I had actually slurped the gravy dry. I had to go top up the gravy again. It is so addictive. It’s hard to stop.
After dinner, the boys and men lepak in the tv room watching Iron Man while we ladies pok pek in the living room waiting for our food to digest in our over-stuffed stomach.
An hour later or so (I lost track of time), Bee Hong reminded me about Ah Hock. It is time for dessert.
This is Ah Hock. Many of you asked me why we named this watermelon Ah Hock. Well, the story is like this. I was supposed to carve a porcupine out of this watermelon. Somehow, many of my friends commented that it ended looking like a hedgehog. One of my friend had a spelling error and typed HedgeHOCK instead. That is how Ah Hock came about lah.
After our scrumptious dinner, seeing what is served for dessert is crazy!
We had Eddy’s signature Caramelised Pear Butter Cake. There’s a whole block of butter in this beautiful cake hence the fragrant and buttery oomph. Thumbs up!
Chris baked this Banana Cake with Caramelised Walnut to our delight as we love banana cake. Or cheese cake, even durian cake or any cake for that matter. I just love cakes!
Chris also gave me an extra bowl of caramelised walnut. For me and me alone just because I love it so much.
This is Alice’s Tiramisu with cute decorations that caught Ayden’s attention.
Suddenly the kids are out of the TV room and lining up to get a plate of those heavenly sinful desserts.
We had such a great time feasting, chatting and being comfortable. Look at Ayden in the above pic. So manja to the Daddy, so cute. Hehe.
Thank you Chris for hosting us. Thank you all for the fabulous food. We really enjoyed ourselves, didn’t we?
When is the next round? I wanna go too.
