Ole Ole Delights, Melaka
We went back to Malacca last weekend and brought my parents out for dinner at this newly refurbished place called Ole Ole Delights. It was formerly Ole Ole that served traditional Malay food with dark, wooden interior but now they are sporting a more modern cafe-like ambiance and serve a mix of Western, Malay and Thai cuisine.
Ole Ole Delights (Next to Public Bank Batu Berendam)
7 Jalan Mutiara 4,
Taman Mutiara Melaka,
Batu Berendam
Tel: 011-2625 9121
Lovely flowers lining up the white fence in the all white interior.
Old school lamps for that nostalgic touch.
The first thing we did was to order our drinks.
Clockwise from top left:
1) My Ice-blended passionfruit with green apple (RM8)
2) Darling’s Iced Chocolate Strawberry (RM8)
3) My Mom’s Passionfruit Mojito (RM7.80)
4) My Dad’s Strawberry Mojito (RM7.80)
While Ethan had this Iced Chocolate Mint (RM8) in a cute cup with moustache. It was served with marshmallows much to his delight.
Service was really quick. Shortly after we placed our orders, the food came marching in until we almost ran out of space on our tables. Let’s take a look at what we had:
Ole Ole’s Signature Carrot Cake (RM5.90)
The serving portion is quite big and is good for sharing. This is similar to Singapore’s version of white carrot cake with the carrot cake fried on top of beaten egg to form a crust.
Wild Mushroom Soup (RM5.90)
There were 6 of us and we ordered 3 bowls of their wild mushroom soup to share. Their mushroom soup is not the usual creamy type therefore you won’t feel ‘jelak’ after drinking a lot. Having said that, I do however find it a little runny and prefer if to be a tad thicker. They are very generous with the mushrooms though.
My Dad had this Lamb Chop with Mash Potato & Side Salad (RM25).
Dining out with my Dad is simple. You either get him a lamb chop or a steak and he’s a happy man. He likes the lamb chop here. He said it is tender and nicely marinated. I took a bite of the lamb and agrees with him. We even tried asking them for the marinate or secret ingredients but was courteously told that it was marinated with 8-10 herbs. Ok. I shall buy 8 to 10 random herbs and try replicating this dish at home :P
My Mom had this Fish & Chips (RM18) with crunchy batter. It is so huge that my phone can’t capture it in entirely.
She shared her fish with both Ethan and Ayden as the boys love it alot after trying it. I think the boys ended up eating most of it >_<
Darling’s Grilled Honey Glazed Chicken Chop (RM16.50) is not bad at all. Served with brown sauce which I personally think is unnecessary as the chicken is already flavourful on its own. What is worth mentioning though is their mash potato. The mash potato here is unlike the usual mash potato that you get from the fast food joint served with sauce and all. The mash potato here is garlicky with black pepper mixed into it and does not require any sauce to go with it. The kids did not fancy it though as they find it too hot with the garlic and black pepper.
Chicken Bolognese Spaghetti (RM12.50)
Ethan and Ayden as usual will request for a plate of spaghetti bolognese so we ordered the chicken bolognese spaghetti and to our surprise, an entire drumstick was served instead of those minced meat. The tomato sauce is also homemade.
I ordered this Mighty Burger (RM18.50) served with 150grams chicken patty but Ayden took an interest to it. Actually he was keen on the fries.
I think he polished almost all of my fries. To me, the burger here is not their forte. Well, I’ve always preferred beef burger so having this chicken patty, my opinion might be biased.
We also ordered Fried Tom Yam Spaghetti Served with Fried Chicken (RM10.50) to share but oh me, oh my, it was so spicy that only my Dad can tolerate it. I’d prefer if they tone down a little on the level of spiciness as it kind of overwhelms this dish.
Nasi Goreng Kampung served with Ayam Pandan (RM11.80)
Their nasi goreng kampung looks good on the menu so we ordered it too. True enough, the fried rice is very nice. As for their ayam pandan, I’m so used to having ayam pandan in smaller pieces entirely wrapped in pandan leaves that I find this big piece of drumstick somewhat lacking in fragrance. But from what I heard, it is one of their popular items so maybe it’s just me not used to having it like this.
After having all of the above, it was time for some dessert. The kids had been waiting restlessly for this.
Ole Ole Dessert Puff (RM5)
A DIY dessert where we can choose our own base and toppings. This is totally recommended. We love it.
Milk Chocolate Torte (RM9.50)
This decadent chocolaty dessert also gets our thumbs up.
Key Lime Pie (RM8.50)
My mom especially loved this key lime pie. I think because after all the food she has eaten, this tangy and zesty pie makes a refreshing and indulgent end to her meal.
Sticky Toffee Pudding with Ice Cream (RM8.50)
This is the kind of dessert that lights the kids with joy. Pudding paired with ice cream can never go wrong.
Sago Panna Cotta with Gula Melaka (RM7) is also nice as the gula melaka is thick and fragrant.
We are very happy with our desserts and won’t mind coming back during tea break just to indulge in them again.
This place is pork free and serves no alcohol. My personal favourite is their lamb chop and desserts. MUST try!
Western? I thought that’s a nyonya/peranakan place! But frankly, peranakan folks should just stay home and eat own cooking – sure many times nicer. Bet your mum’s cooking is better than any place in town.
My mom’s cooking is superb but every once in a while it’s good to bring the parents out and give her a break :D
Wow. Quite a lot of food. I love Western food.
We love Western food too. Outside yellow, inside white. LoLoL!
Your dad is the direct opposite of my dad. My dad will not be able to enjoy western fare. Must be Chinese food for him! >.<
Wei, isn't it too much food for 4 adults and 2 kids??
My parents went to China recently and did not really quite enjoy the food there. They are accustomed to having spicy food so Chinese food do not really appeal to them.
Different with Klang Valley’s Ole Ole Bali?
Ole Ole Bali serves Peranakan food right? This here serves Western, Thai and Malay cuisine.
very nice food with desserts…the price is very reasonable too..but it is in Melaka..too far for me..
The carrot cake with egg looks good. I will eat that if I ever visit this place.
