Kidzania : Revisited

Ethan made his first trip to Kidzania in March 2012 when they just opened. Read about it here. Back then many establishments are not operational yet.  We have since revisited Kidzania a couple more times to seek jobs in their new establishments and also to try securing jobs in other establishment which he did not have time to apply during his first visit.   Ayam Brand Cooking School He learned to make tuna sandwich and […]

School of Tomorrow – Empowering Lifelong Learners

After attending the Beaconhouse School of Tomorrow conference, a quote by Alma Haris lingered in my mind even until now, “If we want 21st century learning, we can’t have 20th century systems”. The 4th School of Tomorrow Conference opened to a crowd of over 600 delegates from over 9 countries at the Sunway Resort Hotel. The education conference is the fourth in a series of international conferences organised by Beaconhouse to explore a new vision […]

Dare to be different

Ethan’s BaoBei teacher told him last Friday to bring an empty cut bottle to class on Monday for a project. They are learning about plants and as usual in BaoBei, every topic is followed by some practical learning. That is what I love most about this place as it is not just theory learning but hands-on too.  Ethan said he believes the teacher will teach him to grow a plant in that cut bottle as […]

Everyday’s a field trip with Nuffnang

I started blogging late 2008. It took me about a year to find my way in the blogging community. Nuffnang helped path my way. Ethan has never been to kindergarten until his present age of 5 but he has experienced more than any kindergarten can give through the numerous Nuffnang activities we attended.  2010 From the tender age of 2 years plus, Ethan started tagging along with me to events. The hands on experience gained […]

School of Tomorrow

If you are an avid reader of our blog, you’d know that Ethan was home schooled until his present age of 5. He will be 6 mid of next year and I think it is only fair to let him experience one year of pre-school in the company of friends.  We have yet to register Ethan in any pre-schools as we are in a dilemma on which school to choose. Being a former childhood educator, I’ve been […]

Crossing the Road – A guide for children

It’s never too early to teach our kids how to cross the road. Ethan and I always sing to this tune: Look left, right, left, Before you cross the street, Use your eyes, before you use your feet.. We were in IKEA today and Ethan proudly wanted to show his Daddy how he crosses the road..  Watch the light, watch the light, Red means stop and green means go. Press the button and watch the […]

You learn, I learn. You no learn, I won’t too..

It has been 6-7 months now since Ethan first learned how to play the piano. Throughout these period, I have been able to keep up with the lessons and guide him in the absence of his piano teacher. Then slowly, he starts to be better than me, reading piano notes more fluently while I still struggle trying to recognize those notes. However, together, Ethan and I made good progress. He always makes sure that I […]

Hands on learning experience

Mid Autumn Festival is just around the corner but I have yet to buy any mooncakes. This year, the number of people making their own mooncakes shoot sky high due to the exorbitant prices of commercial mooncakes. Ethan got the chance to try making mooncakes when we were invited to sample Resort World Genting’s mooncakes collection. Read all about it here. I’ve tried shaping mooncake too last year in West Lake Garden, Sunway Resort Hotel […]

Do we really need cell phones in school?

I am horrified to read about the decision to allow mobile devices to be brought to school starting next year in our country. When dining out, just look around you. Most children are no longer interacting with each other these days. They all got their head burried into their mobile IT gadgets. A reunion of any sorts no longer holds any virtue of togetherness. What we get these days is a group of humans put […]

The library in Bao Bei

Ethan discovered recently that he can actually borrow books from Bao Bei and bring them home. He got super excited and picked a book about heavy machines. He brings it everywhere he goes. I love libraries. I was a librarian back in school. I used to borrow the entire series of Noddy! Dunno what happen to me now, I just don’t read books anymore -.- Not bad, BaoBei has its own library! Ethan brings the […]

Awarded BaoBei’s exemplary student (模 范 生)

Earlier this week, Ethan came home smiling from ear to ear. He only smiles that wide upon completing one stage and proceeding to the next. He has been in BaoBei for 9 months now and he is in stage E at the moment. I thought he has completed stage E and is already in F but he said not yet, a little bit more to go. I wonder then, why that big grin? Then he […]

Learning through play

I give English and Math tuition at home for Primary school going kids. Ethan participates in all these classes ever since like ‘forever’.. The other day I was teaching the Primary 4 kids Multiplication. After class, Ethan requested to learn multiplication too. I told him it is good enough that he knows his Addition and Subtraction well and that Multiplication can wait. After all, he is not even FIVE yet! But he insisted to learn as […]

Bento workshop for kids

Today, Darling and I accompanied Ethan to his school’s educational trip – bento making. When Ethan initially brought home the permission slip, he told us that ONE adult must accompany him. I volunteered to go but Darling said it would be nice to make it a family outing as well so we paid for 2 adults and 1 kid :) Ethan was given a bento set, a pair of gloves, a hair net and a […]

Petrosains KLCC

The last I went to Petrosains KLCC was end of 2006 when I was pregnant with Ethan. I was working with Smart Reader Kids then and was leading the kids for their field trip. The kids were 5 and 6 years old then but they did not enjoy the trip. We completed the entire place in less than 2 hours! Yesterday, when we planned to utilize the free Petrosains vouchers given by Disney Junior, I […]

It has been FIVE months since Ethan first started going to BaoBei. A week after I published his update at 2.5 months, he brought home another set of cards that consists of 11 word cards. I did not recorded a video then as it was only 11 words. After that initial set of 30, then 42 and later 11, he brought home 66 new cards several days ago! Total that means he has mastered 149 […]

Angry Bird #bodohpunyabuku

We did not go anywhere after Ethan’s class today. It was raining on and off the entire day that I got so lazy to go out. We stayed home and did sand art instead. Sand art can be rather messy so I got him to take off his shirt and pants. He still has his underwear ON okay? :P My neck went stiff *not forgetting the sore butt* after sitting there with him the entire hour […]

BaoBei Reading Wonderland : Update at 2.5 months

After the last update of Ethan reading 30 characters @ 1 month in BaoBei Reading Wonderland, here’s another update. Today, 2.5 months after attending BaoBei, Ethan brought home another 42 word cards. Add that to the previous 30 word cards, he can now read a total of 72 characters just 2.5 months after attending BaoBei. Needless to say, I’m impressed. Unlike the previous 30 characters where I am able to master all of them after […]

UCMAS Hawaiian Night

We were invited to UCMAS Hawaiian Night dinner a couple of weeks ago. I was very determined to dress up as Hawaiian as possible initially but time was not on my side and I was unable to complete my ‘costume’ :( Wanted to wear the above to the dinner but I don’t want the rest of the diners to puke… so… Gave it to Ethan instead :D He looked kinda cute in that :) He […]
