Satar – Terengganu’s Local Delicacy

During our stay in Awana Kijal Golf, Beach and Spa Resort, the staffs there kept on raving about a certain fish snack called satar. They kept asking us if we’ve tried it. Honestly speaking, I’ve never heard of such a snack. When I knew I am going to Terengganu, the first thing that came to mind is keropok lekor and nasi dagang but definitely not satar as I am not even aware of its existence. […]

Kedai Kopi Hai Peng, Kemaman, Terengganu

From the first day we stepped foot in Terengganu, everybody was telling us that we must drop by Hai Peng Kopitiam to try their famous coffee. We wanted to drop by on the second day but our schedule was so tight that we could not make it. We did pass by the place and saw such huge crowd there. It must be really good then, that place.. Finally on our third day here we decided […]

Sitiawan Kompiang

I was raised in Sitiawan from Primary 4 until I left for college. When it comes to Sitiawan, one delicacy that you MUST try is: Gong Pian, Gong Phiang, Kong Piang, Kompiang.. however you spell it, it only means one thing : Biscuit made of lard, onions, salt and flour with either onion or minced pork fillings which is then slapped onto the sides of a traditional Chinese oven. It will stick at the side of […]

Blanched Bean Sprout Recipe

Darling loves eating Nga Choi Kai (Bean Sprouts Chicken) and we pay like RM2 for a plate of blanched beansprout which I think is ridiculous knowing how cheap beansprout is in the market! As usual, I’ll try to learn to prepare dishes that either Darling or Ethan loves. Yesterday, I tried dishing out blanched beansprout and I think it’s quite alright as Darling said I managed to get the correct texture with the right crunch! […]

Pepper Lunch Express

The other day after having a hearty meal in KL, we went to 1 Utama to get something. An hour later Ethan is hungry again. We went to Food Republic. Since Darling and I are still not hungry, we ordered only ONE meal for Ethan alone. I love the chicken rice there but today we felt like trying out something new. I ordered the Salmon Pepper Rice from Pepper Lunch Express.  I requested for them […]

Nyonya Chap Chye Recipe (Vegetarian Dish)

Unlike Loh Hon Chai (refer to my entry here)  where red bean curd is used, the Nyonya Chap Chye calls for the use of Taucu (minced bean paste) instead. This is an extremely simple dish to prepare and  the hint of sweetness goes well with kids. Ingredients: oil garlic, chopped 1 tablespoon minced taucu onion, sliced white cabbage carrot dried mushrooms, soaked and sliced dried lily buds (kin chiam), soaked; cut off the hard tips […]

French Toast with Chicken Floss filling

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I always make sure Darling and Ethan eat before they leave home for work and class. It’s a challenge to keep the meals interesting but today, I think I just hit the jackpot! Darling and Ethan had this and they love it max! What’s that? That’s french toast with chicken floss filling :) It’s really simple to prepare this. Cut 2 pieces of bread into 8 […]

Anmum Materna – Am I Taking It? :D

*48 hours sticky post. Scroll down for latest updates* It all started when my friend, a mother of a 3-month old girl posted on FB saying she’s giving away 3 boxes of Anmum Materna milk powder. I commented that she might as well continue drinking those until she finishes them all up but she replied that she is currently on Anmum Lacta as she is breast-feeding her daughter. One lady who responded to my friend’s […]

Red Bean & Black Glutinous Rice Dessert Recipe

Darling told me the other day he often drops by Kedai Kopi Khoong in Sea Park in the evenings alone for dessert. He brought me there for the very first time in 1997 and is still frequenting that place today! I don’t know what makes him kept going back there as I find their desserts so-so only -.- How? Am I that bad that he needs to ‘cari makan’ else where? :P So the other […]

Dim Sum Galore @ Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant, One World Hotel

If you know me well you’ll know I’ll never sacrifice my sleep to go for Dim Sum breakfast. Countless times my friends planned for an early dim sum but I always decline as sleep is very important to me. Already I am sleep deprived, I won’t make it worse by waking up extra early just to eat -.- Zuan Yuan, One World is having a dim sum lunch promotion from 1 March – 30 April […]

Lemon Chicken Recipe

Every since I made that resolution to cook more often so my family can have home-cooked food at least 4 days a week, I’ve been at dead-end every night thinking what to cook the next day. It’s either chicken or fish and it’s always the same old, same old. I’m afraid Darling and Ethan will get bored and not looking forward to come home for lunch anymore. The other day, I tried dishing out Lemon […]

Casa del Cocco : Non- Halal Fusion Italian Cuisine

You know how big a fish person I am right? And then you should meet my friends who are ALL porcine fans! The porky gang picked plump pork over fish that fine day as they heard of this new place that serves NON-HALAL fusion Italian food! The word NON-HALAL drives them into a frenzy and I just couldn’t say NO. Well, as the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, JOIN them! So for that […]

White Radish Soup Recipe

I was really knocked-out yesterday. The high fever coupled with flu and cough weakened me so much that I had to cancel my classes and just stay home to recuperate. I refused to see the doctor as I think this is just the normal fever, flu and cough. I lost my appetite and all I could think of was how nice it is to have a bowl of hot soup in front of me then. […]

Making your own bread crumbs

I’m a bread person. I eat bread in the morning. I eat bread in the afternoon. I eat bread in the evening. I eat bread at night. Okay, maybe that’s a little exaggerating. I don’t eat bread in the afternoon unless I’m out then Tuna Sandwich will be my lunch. Anyway, you can imagine the amount of bread I have at home. We always have left-overs. So what do I do with them? Turn them […]

Bento Mom?

I went to Daiso with Ethan again yesterday. I tell you, each time I enter Daiso, I’ll come out so much poorer! I’ve always told myself NOT to go to Daiso. JANGAN MASUK DAISO! But tak menjadi… Whenever I’m in One Utama OR The Curve, sure masuk jugak Daiso.. sigh…  *macam kena jampi* Anyway, bought a zillion stuffs for Ethan. That boy can really shop in Daiso. “Mummy, this one can-ah? RM5 ONLY!” Yeah right… […]

Isenbin Authentic Taiwanese Handmade Desserts

There’s a relatively new Taiwanese Dessert House in SS2 called Isenbin. Being a loyal Snowflake fan, I cringe at every new Taiwanese Dessert House that mushroom-ed in town. My reaction would be, “Another ONE?!” Honestly I wasn’t aware of Isenbin for I have not been to SS2 for quite some time. Jenn proposed the idea of giving Isenbin a try and being hot and hungry today, we totally agreed. So there we were, a dozen […]
