Sapore @ Persiaran Ampang

Mention Sapore and many will tell you that it is a hidden gem in Ampang. Serving authentic Italian and Spanish-Mediterranean cuisine, this restaurant is lead by Chef Fabio Ruggiero, who originates from Bari in Italy.

Sapore is hidden right behind the busy street of Jalan Ampang fly over bridge.

18 Persiaran Ampang,
Desa Pahlawan, Ampang,
55000 Kuala Lumpur
Operating Hours:
2pm to 11:30pm (Monday to Friday)
10am to 11:30pm (Weekends & Public Holiday)

Contact: +603 4266 6362

There is an open parking space at the corner of the street.

We were served with complementary and freshly made Focaccia. This applies to every diners at Sapore.

Additional orders of these artisan bread can be purchased at RM5 per basket.

Cold Cut Platters for Sharing RM88

The cold cut platter is perfect for sharing. Served with a mixture of Chorizo pork sausage, Salchichón Spanish sausage, Parma ham, Capocollo Salami, Porchetta pork roast, Mortadella, pickled vegetables and green olives, the varieties of texture and taste make an excellent topic for a conversation.

What we love about Sapore is KIDS EAT FREE every Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 2pm with a minimum spending of RM80 in a single receipt. We were here on a Sunday hence the boys got a free pizza. Pizza is made using hand-pressed tomatoes (not pureed) with generous amount of ham and cheese topping. The boys polished this off in an instant.

Every country has a dish that unites its people and in Spain, that dish is paella.
We need not fly to Spain though as here at Sapore, their Spanish Paella Rice is one of the most sought after dish BUT it is only available on Sundays which explains why we were here on a Sunday and not Saturday or any other day. Because … PAELLA.
And if only we were here for dinner, we could have gotten a BUY 1 FREE 1 deal as they have a BUY 1 FREE 1 PAELLA promo every Sunday nights from 6pm to 8pm.
We love their perfectly flavoured paella with seafood soup as the base. Eventhough it comes with a treasure of ingredients, the rice still takes centre stage and is not smothered by everything else. Every grain of rice has absorbed the flavor from the seafood base and when done, the rice separate and not clump together making it the perfect plate of paella.
We found these treasures in our paella:
👉Ibérico Pork meat
👉Chorizo sausages
👉Vegetables
👉Tiger prawns
👉Seafood soup
Remember, Sundays 6-8pm is BUY 1 FREE 1 Paella so head your way here with a friend and indulge!

NEW ON THE MENU is this Grilled Organic Chicken (RM33)

Perfectly grilled to be crispy on the outside yet still juicy inside, marinated with rosemary, garlic, and lemon, this grilled half chicken is served with two types of sauce; Mushroom and Barbeque sauce.

A must when you are at any Spanish-Italian restaurant is to try their pork dishes and here at Sapore, we decided to give their Pork Chop with White Wine (RM58) a try.

A whopping 350g of pork, I could not finish this by myself though it was nicely done. The chef marinates the pork chop with paprika and seasoning. After which he pats on the pork chop with flour and pan-fried it. For the sauce, Chef Fabio uses white wine and butter (to thicken the sauce and gives it better aroma).

Served on a bed of mashed potatoes with garden salad on the sides, I will make a note to share this the next time I dine here.

We complete our lunch with Tiramisu and Panna Cotta

Layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers with rich, velvety mascarpone cream, sweet red wine and Marsala, it’s no wonder the tiramisu proves to be such a hit.

The boys love this creamy Panna Cotta, a truly great all-time Italian classic dessert. Creamy and rich in texture, every bite gives out the sweetness of honey, followed by the natural sweet strawberry sauce and strawberry cuts on top.

Darling and I also shared a bottle of Sapore’s famous Sangria

The Spanish Sangria traditionally consists of red wine from Spain and fresh fruit cuts.

At Sapore, they add on Grand Marnier, Cognac, passion fruit syrup, lemon juice and orange juice to make the perfect Sangria. It is definitely cooling and refreshing for any summer parties.

I’ve bookmarked Sapore for future family outings as I simply love their casual and comfortable settings. Our boys love the food here so it’s a reason to return eventhough it is situated quite a distance from where we are staying.

Here’s a video of our lunch at Sapore:
