5 Ways to Save Money When You Shop Online

What made you start shopping online?

I wasn’t a fan of online shopping and often rolled my eyes when my sister talked about her online shopping hauls. Even the mummy group that I am in on Facebook often discussed their online shopping steals. They can go on and on about how they got that particular product at such a steal hence creating a tsunami effect on other mothers when they too joined the bandwagon to quickly grab that said item.

Curiosity made me log in to do some research and compare prices. To my surprise, many things are indeed cheaper to get online!

1 STRETCH YOUR MONEY FURTHER WITH COUPONS!

As I researched further, I realised we can stretch our value of Ringgit further with additional coupons.

The rule of the thumb is before you check-out any items from your cart, always browse for coupons that may give you additional discounts. I do that for all my purchases on Shopee, Lazada, 11street, Gemfive and more. Yet out of the many leading online platforms out there, my preferred platforms are always Shopee and Lazada as not only they offer one of the best competitive prices, I can often apply discount codes to help me save money further.

2 SPECIAL SALES

Another thing about shopping online is, don’t be fooled by the countless SALES screaming in the cyber space.

For example is the recent birthday sale by Zalora. I ended up purchasing a couple of stuffs from Shopee instead because it offers free shipping as well as additional Shopee promo codes on that day only. Having said that, not all items on Shopee are cheaper. At times, I find the same item on Zalora cheaper so always do your RESEARCH and COMPARE.

3 TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ON-GOING PROMOTIONS

Now, with so many leading online platforms, how do we keep track of all the on-going promotions?

I refer to ShopCoupons.

I have this app installed in my phone and it will update me with the latest promotions out there, whether it is online or offline. I checked the app today and it has a lot of Zalora promo code going on in there.

Besides discount codes, ShopCoupons also offers a lot of attractive deal coupons such as Buy 1 Free 1 deals or RM1 item deals.

I like using ShopCoupons because there is no annoying ads to distract me while using and it is totally free with no hidden fees.

4 GROUP BUY

Find a group of like-minded people and arrange group buys whenever possible. As a mother, I find it more economical to buy stuffs in bulk. With this in mind, I have a small community in my neighbourhood so we can pool together to get kitchen stuffs in larger amount so we can waive the delivery fees. And because we are living in the same neighbourhood, we can just walk over to collect our stuffs once it is delivered to a particular buyer.

5 MAXIMISE BIRTHDAY DISCOUNTS

Some online platforms offer special discounts or redemption for our birthday so make the full use of it.

Some of the brands that I’ve redeemed todate are:

Online stores: Shopee, Lazada and Foodpanda

Offline restaurants and stores: Mcdonalds, KFC, Dominos and Parkson

Yes, you guessed it correctly. I am now officially an online shopping convert and if you speak to me about your online shopping haul, I won’t roll my eyes at you anymore. I may even teach you a thing or two on how to get better deals out there in the cyber space
