Reinvent Learning: Every Home Needs a Printer

Ethan’s school had recently held a briefing for parents whose children will be sitting for the UPSR exam this September. The aim of the talk is to brief parents on the latest UPSR format so we can guide our children better during revision time with them. While it is tougher today to sit for UPSR as the questions can be more challenging, with the right guidance and support, it is not impossible for our children to deliver their best.

Unlike our time when we had to purchase endless revision books to prepare us for major exams, technology has made it easier for us parents to guide our children. These days, we don’t even need to buy revision books as lots of revision materials are easily available online for free. All we need is a home printer to print these materials out for our children.

This is why these days, every home needs to have a printer but how do we decide which printer is best for our home?

For me, there are several factors I look into before committing to a printer.

1 Black/White or Color Printer

For a home printer, I prefer to get a color (inkjet) printer compared to a laser printer. The reason being I will be using this printer not only to print revision materials for the boys, I will also want to use it to print out photographs, recipes and art & craft activities. Big brother Ethan also needs a color printer for his school projects.

2 Budget

It is important to choose an inkjet printer based on the cost of replacement ink cartridges and not on the cost of the printer. This is because some printers can be extremely cheap yet their replacement cartridges can easily exceed the cost of the printer in no time.

3 Features

My basic requirement for a printer is that it is able to PRINT, SCAN and COPY. This is extremely important based on my experience with Ethan and all his school projects that requires him to scan some learning materials and print them out. Imagine if my printer can’t do that, I’ll have to drive out to the nearest stationery shop to get this done. Such a hassle it will be.

4 Space

Space is usually limited at home. Ethan has a study room but it is not a big one. The printer needs to be placed on whatever space the study table has left.

I found one printer that meets the requirement of all the above and even more – HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3700

The HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 3700 is currently the world’s smallest inkjet all-in-one printer.

Ultra-compact and wireless with a sleek and beautiful hue, it fits basically the littlest space available at home and is never an eye-sore.

This wifi printer makes wireless printing directly from our mobile such a breeze. All I need is to install the HP Smart App in my phone and I can immediately start printing remotely. This way, I can easily convert the digital pictures in my phone into hard copies and frame them up.

The printer is in Ethan’s study room yet I do not need to be in that room to print out revision materials for him. I can just relax on the sofa in the living room with Ayden while browsing for materials on my phone, get it printed out remotely through the HP Smart App and Ethan will receive them right away.

REINVENT LEARNING WITH HP’s LITTLE MAKERS CHALLENGES

As the saying goes, “All work no play makes Ethan a dull boy” so we do take fun breaks every now and then for a good family bonding time. There are plenty of fun and educational challenges on the HP Smart App that the boys love doing. Their current favourite is the HP’s Little Makers challenges. The campaign started from 14 January until 31 May 2019 with a new challenge released bi-weekly.

Being avid travelers, the boys’ favourite is the Around The World challenge as they got the opportunity to explore landmarks of other countries and discover some of the best hidden treasures in the world.

They printed out the materials themselves from the HP Smart App.

Together, we cut and paste famous landmarks onto their respective countries. Ayden is holding one very famous landmark. Can you guess which country it is located in?

It was fun ‘traveling’ with the boys to these countries; learning more about their landmarks and discussing every question the boys have in mind.

We are already looking forward to the next challenge which will be released on the 13th March.

HP has a total of 8 challenges over the span of 16-weeks. For each challenge, HP will select 5x winners to win prizes worth RM500 of HP product so what are you waiting for? Head over to hp.com/my/littlemakers to participate now

I’ve two HP’s, one at home and one at my girl’s school in the jungle. Can’t do without it these days, use for photocopying too – no need to go to the shops, so convenient.

I wonder what the purpose is of children so young taking exams.
