Ayden’s First Week at Kindergarten

Ayden experienced 3 days of kindy last week. It is his first time attending preschool. He is the only one in his class without a uniform as the rest of the children are existing students in that school since last year or maybe a couple of years before. I decided to send him to a year of kindergarten to let him experience sports day as well as graduation concert as he will be going to Primary One next year. I do not want him to grow up missing on preschool experience.

I had it easy with Ayden last week. He has no separation anxiety at all.

On Day One, he said this to me:
Mummy, make sure you fill your phone with my pictures so you can look at them if you miss me. Remember, I am in your heart so if you feel like crying, put your palm over your heart and feel me hugging you. You’ll be fine then. Try not to cry because I’ll be back before you know it. Goodbye, see you, I love you

Totally a reverse role! I thought I was supposed to give that speech to him but he was the one telling me all those. The father was worried if Ayden was saying all those to console himself but apparently he was fine throughout the day.

Day Two:
Mummy, I don’t really have time to miss you because I am very busy in school. I have to learn my friends’ name and try to be their friends. They all know each other while I am the new kid. I know you’ll miss me so let me kiss you first so you feel better later. Goodbye, see you, I love you

He is a big eater. He had 3 to 4 servings of noodles. He said the portion served was small so he had to ask for more 8-O

Day Three:
Good bye Mummy. I love you!

Yup, Day 3 was short and quick. He hurried to class and when he returned, he excitedly told me this:
Mummy, I got a new girlfriend! Her name is Suzie (not her real name). We went to washroom together, eat together and play together. I waited for her at the canteen so we can sit together. She said I am cute when I comb my hair up. Mummy, it’s Friday now. I wish it is Monday soon so I can see her again!

Ooooookay. Ayden is back to his original self. As long as he has a girlfriend, he’ll be fine

Here is his artwork done in class. He showed it to us excitedly while telling the story of this picture. I love how happy he drew their faces with a big smile on each of them. Even the animals have broad smiles on their faces.

I did ask Ayden regarding his teacher and she sounds like a very nice person. Ayden said he told her he doesn’t have a uniform yet while the rest of his classmates are in uniform and she answered him, “It’s okay. I can recognize you better this way. You’ll get your uniform when the time is right” (The office told us they have run out of stock for uniforms in Ayden’s size so we’ll have to wait until this week to get his uniform)

Ayden’s teacher also reminded Ayden to keep all his pencils inside his pencil case before going home saying if he doesn’t, those pencils will get left behind and cry. It made such a huge impact on Ayden that he makes sure to keep all his stationery in his bag before leaving, not wanting them to cry.

The teacher told us that Ayden doesn’t act like a boy first time in preschool. He is very brave, cheeky even and sometimes a rascal too, running around in class with his new friends :-o He is very talkative and able to express himself well and most of all, he doesn’t even look for his mother or father. Hahaha. I don’t know if I should be happy or sad with that last sentence :-|

Anyway, I am glad Ayden loves going to preschool. Two years of homeschooling is enough to teach him to read, write and count. Now, it is time for him to learn to socialize and make new friends.

Actually those are my exact words to him when I had to leave him to go to Johor for a day’s job some time ago. I did not expect him to use those words back on me.

Regarding the washroom, they have a Buddy Buddy system where they’ll go around in pairs. Those two went together and I heard Ayden kept rushing her because he did not want to miss the story telling in class. He kept telling her hurry up but you know girls take a longer time in the washroom :D

I am so confident that he will be ok with no separation anxiety and turns out he is so ok and happy to go to school. Bravo Ayden!
