My Ultherapy Journey – The PROCEDURE

Ethan celebrated his 11th birthday in July while Ayden turned 5 end of August.

I often wonder, where have all the time gone?  My boys are growing so fast, soon it will be back to only me and Darling when they both leave home to further their studies.

Will it be honeymoon period again for us? Will Darling still see me the same as the beautiful bride he married back then? While it is not quite possible for me to look exactly like I did on my wedding day, I can at least try to look the best I can.

I will be turning 41 in December. Being in the big 4-0 club, it takes a lot more effort to look good.

I exercise regularly to stay in shape so I can keep up with my active boys.

While I am confident to say I am in control of my fitness, the same unfortunately can’t be said about my skin.

My skin changes as I age. It becomes thinner and loses collagen, making it appear less plump and smooth. To make matters worse, my fitness routine also takes a toll on my skin. My evening runs and cardio workouts have negative impact on the elasticity of my skin, as my high metabolic rate may accelerate the breakdown of the skin’s supportive fibers (collagen and elastin).

Fortunately, today’s aesthetic advancement has solutions to almost every skin problems. My answer to sagging skin is Ultherapy™.

If you have been following my blog, you’ll remember that I first did Ultherapy™ in 2015 and was very happy with the result. Ultherapy™ is a non-invasive therapeutic technique that uses micro-focused ultrasound to heat tissue deeper than laser can reach to stimulate the production of collagen.

Ultherapy™ is the only non-invasive FDA-cleared procedure to lift the skin from the brow to the décolletage.

I love Ultherapy™ for 3 main reasons:

ONE – it stimulates collagen production for firmer and supple skin

TWO – it precisely targets different layers of the skin to reduce fine lines (superficial) and lift saggy skin (deeper)

THREE – it is a non-invasive procedure with no downtime

It has been 3 years since my first Ultherapy™ procedure so I guess it’s time to give my skin the boost it deserves again. I went for my second Ultherapy™ treatment last week.

Since it is a lunch time procedure with no downtime, I can have it done while the boys are in school.

THE PROCEDURE

For the benefit of those who have not read my first Ultherapy™ experience, I shall share the step-by-step of the procedure again.

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

They prepared my skin by removing make-up and cleansing the skin.

PRE-TREATMENT PHOTOGRAPH

After my skin is cleansed, I am escorted to the photo room where my pre-treatment face is photographed. This will be kept in their record and to be used to track my progress upon my return two months later.

CONSULTATION

The pre-treatment photographs are immediately delivered to the doctor’s room to be studied in detail. Moments later I am ushered into the doctor’s room for consultation. Dr Kavin explained to me of my current skin condition. He showed me the skin below my cheeks that needed lifting the most.

He will also lift my brows as well as work on stimulating collagen production under my chin to firm up loose skin.

SKIN NUMBING

Numbing cream is applied onto my skin to numb my facial skin. The entire numbing process takes about 15 minutes.

Once they are satisfied that my skin is numb enough, they’ll wash away the cream and pat the skin dry.

FACE MAPPING

Dr Kavin did some markings on my face. There are different types of transducers with different ultrasound energy depths for different areas of the face.

Gel is applied onto my skin before proceeding with the treatment.

Using ultrasound technology, Dr Kavin is able to visualize the different skin layers and to have pinpoint accuracy during the treatment.

Using focused ultrasound energy, the procedure targets deep skin tissue layers without any harm to the overlying skin.

After my Ultherapy™ procedure, I saw some initial lifting effect as Dr Kavin did half of my face first for me to compare but the ultimate results will take place gradually over 2 to 3 months, as my skin regenerates collagen.

As this treatment targets the deeper layer of the skin, I feel some tenderness when the energy being deposited into the target tissue under my chin. This also indicates that the collagen-building process has been initiated.

As this is my second time having Ultherapy™ done, it is a walk in the park for me. I don’t feel any discomfort on any other parts of my face during treatments except that slight twitching when treatment is done under my chin.

Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.

For patients with lower pain threshold, oral painkillers can be prescribed upon patient’s request. However this request has to be approved by the doctor. Patients will need to inform the doctor about any drug allergies etc. This is all part of the pre-treatment protocol.

With Ultherapy™, there is no downtime. After my procedure, I can resume my normal activities immediately.

I managed to get my Ultherapy™ treatment recorded on video this time around so do watch to see how hassle-free it actually is:

Ultherapy™ doesn’t involve any creams, fillers or toxins. It stimulates our body’s own collagen-building process for natural, noticeable results hence the result will be more prominent in two to three months’ time. I’ll be sure to share with you more pictures then so stay tuned!

    No wonder so syantik!!!

I pamper myself to facial once a month. And now my skin is more sensitive compared to when I am in my 20s, so I need to hydrate and take of my skin more.

You still look good. Young and vibrant. Must really take goodcare of ourselves. We ladies do get old fast at 40s.

My better half always joke that soon it would be only him and I while the kids all out from the “nest”. Haha. For now, better enjoy their company while we can.

    These new technologies are fascinating.

May I know what is the approximate cost of the procedure? Thanks…

Hi Liann, the cost is depending on which area you wish to have the procedure on so it is best to consult the doctor about the cost. Averagely it may cost about RM8K but again, it really depends on how many shots needed for the entire procedure. Hope this helps.
