Chinese New Year Yee Sang Menu: Silka Hotels, Kuala Lumpur

In the run-up to the Chinese New Year, Silka Cheras and Silka Maytower Chef de Cuisine Lee Soon Seng (Chef Lee) has been cooking up a storm to come up with fabulous dishes and food-and-beverage offers for diners.

To kick things off, Silka Cheras and Silka Maytower are offering three (3) combinations of traditional Chinese New Year favourites to cater to an array of taste buds.

With a selection of RM788nett (Golden Treasures), RM988nett (Rising Phoenix) and RM1,088nett (Roar of the Dragon) for a table of 10, diners can look forward to traditional favourites such as Braised Seafood with Crab Meat and Dried Scallop Soup, Deep Fried Garoupa with Sweet and Sour Sauce and Oat Tiger Prawns.

The Salmon Yee Sang is included as part of the Rising Phoenix and Roar of the Dragon menus. As no Chinese New Year dinner would be complete without the traditional ‘toss’ of ‘Yee Sang’ for good luck and prosperity, diners who opted for Golden Treasures set menu may add on Salmon ‘Yee Sang’ and choose from either a Full portion (RM88 nett per serving) or Half-portion (RM48 nett per serving).

To welcome the auspicious year ahead, we were invited by the nice people from both Silka Cheras and Silka Maytower, Kuala Lumpur to experience Chef Lee’s culinary delights last weekend. We were treated to both the Golden Treasures as well as Rising Phoenix set menus.

Salmon Yee Sang

Tossing the yee sang is a must for any Chinese New Year meal as it is symbolic of good luck, prosperity, health and all things auspicious. It is believed the higher we toss the fresh yee sang with a shout of “Loh Hey” which literally means to ‘move upwards’ the higher our fortune will rise and expand during the forthcoming year.

Moving on to our meals, the Golden Treasures – RM 788 nett per table of 10 persons comprise of Hot and Cold Combination (3 Types), Braised Seafood with Beancurd Soup, Deep Fried Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce, Deep Fried Garoupa with Sweet and Sour Sauce, Tiger Prawns with Oats, Braised Tau Kan with Sliced Mushrooms and Siew Pak Choy, Fried Rice with Salted Fish and Cubed Chicken, Lotus Pan Cake with Mochi, Longan and Sea Coconut (Cold)

Hot and Cold Combination (3 Types)

Braised Seafood with Beancurd Soup is hearty, rich, and packed with nutrition. The soft and silky tofu is braised in a delicious seafood soup that is further enhanced by shrimp and squid.

Deep Fried Chicken Chop with Black Pepper Sauce

Crispy fried chicken chop with aromatic black peppersauce. It is so good that every pieces of chicken is gone in seconds!

Deep Fried Garoupa with Sweet and Sour Sauce

While we usually have steamed fish for Chinese New Year meal, it is a pleasant change to have it deep fried and showered with an appetising sweet and sour sauce.

Beautifully presented, it is cut for us for easy serving. Both this fish dish and the chicken chop are an easy favourite with kids. Our boys enjoyed themselves very much that they licked their plate clean.

Tiger Prawns with Oats

We are on a roll here as the combination of oats and savoury prawns is literally a perfect match in culinary heaven.

Braised Tau Kan with Sliced Mushrooms and Siew Pak Choy is a must-have dish for any Chinese New Year meal.

The Fried Rice with Salted Fish and Cubed Chicken is delightfully fragrant with a very nice wok hei to it. I thought I was stuffed but am surprised to find that I still have space in my tummy for this wonderful delight.

A popular dessert, the Lotus Pan Cake with Mochi was cleared in seconds.

A pleasant end to a scrumptious meal, the Longan Sea Coconut is refreshing and rejuvenating.

We also had the pleasure to sample Rising Phoenix – RM 988 nett per table of 10 persons

Prosperity Toss (Salmon Yee Sang), Hot and Cold Combination (4 Types), Braised Seafood with Crabmeat Soup, Roasted Chicken with Prawn Crackers, Steamed Red Snapper with Soy Sauce, Dark Soy Sauce Baked King Tiger Prawns, Braised Tau Kan and Mushrooms with Broccoli, Seafood Fried Rice with Chicken Ham, Lotus Pancake with Mochi, Lotus Seed Lily Bulb with Red Bean (Hot)

Salmon Yee Sang is included for this package.

Strips of salmon sitting majestically on a bed of colourful shredded pickled vegetables, dried radish, jellyfish, crispy crackers and a variety of sauces and condiments.

Hot and Cold Combination (4 Types)

Braised Seafood with Crabmeat Soup

Equally delicious seafood soup with generous bits of crabmeat.

Fragrant and tasty Roasted Chicken with Prawn Crackers

Healthy classic Steamed Red Snapper with Soy Sauce is such a satisfaction to look at and savor.

Dark Soy Sauce Baked King Tiger Prawn

We cant stop biting into these succulent juicy meat of the prawn loaded with all those yummy flavors from the sauce.

Braised Tau Kan and Mushroom with Broccoli

A classic must-have for any Chinese New Year meal.

Seafood Fried Rice with Chicken Ham

The chicken ham brings this seafood fried rice a notch higher but I think it is garnished with too much spring onions there. The boys spent a considerable amount of time removing them. Haha. Naughty, naughty boys doesn’t like anything green in their fried rice.

Lotus Pancake with Mochi

Lotus Seed Lily Bulb Red Bean makes a warm and comforting end to our satisfying meal.
