Cook with Ayden: Sichuan Ma Po Tofu
Over the weekend, Ayden cooked something that got him sweating buckets.
What is it that he dished out that made him sweat?
It is his first time cooking Sichuan food – Ma Po Tofu. As we all know, Sichuan cuisine is well known for their bold and fiery flavours resulting from the use of garlic and Sichuan chili peppers but that did not deter Ayden from trying.
He dished out this Ma Po Tofu the ‘cheat’ way by using ready made Ma Po sauce.
Ingredients:
Minced meat from 4 chicken drumsticks
1 pcs Soft Tofu (cubed)
1 packet MaPo sauce
2 tbs oil
Chili and Spring Onion (for garnishing)
Method:
1) Heat oil.
2) Fry minced meat.
3) Add MaPo sauce.
4) Add cubed tofu.
5) Garnish with chili and spring onion
We used ready made MaPo sauce but in case you want to make your own sauce, you can with these ingredients:
Chicken broth, cornstarch, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, green onion, fermented black beans, Sichuan peppers and chili paste.
I know right. So many ingredients for the sauce, I’d rather just buy the ready made onesÂ
The ready made sauce is actually not spicy for me but it is a little hot for Ayden.
Here’s the tutorial video on how to cook this super simple Sichuan dish.

Cooked once. The cheat way.
Spicy! Not too fiery for me or I also cannot stand the heat.
Spicy? Not for me then. Good for Ayden for being brave enough to try.
I bought Mapo sauce before and it was spicy for me! Ayden really can take it? He so geng!
