Cook with Ayden: Chicken Stew

Little Ayden is getting really comfortable with our rice cooker these days. He uses it to bake cakes and recently cooked a chicken dish in it.

I saw how easy it was to cook using the rice cooker and decided to let him try cooking Chicken Stew in it.

There is a whole lot of ingredients required to cook this Chicken Stew but these are mostly basic stuffs that you’ll usually have ready in your kitchen on any days.

This easy to cook Chicken Stew is great for any days.

Ingredients:

Chicken, chopped
5 dried Chinese mushrooms, soaked and halved
Cherry tomatoes
1 medium-sized carrot, cut into wedges
2 potatoes, cubed
1 onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp oil
150ml water

Marinade
1 tsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp light soy sauce
half tsp thick soy sauce
1/4 tsp pepper

Seasoning
1-1 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
Chicken stock
Gula Melaka

Method:
1) Season chicken with marinade for at least an hour.
2) Heat oil and sweat onion and garlic until fragrant.
3) Add marinated chicken.
4) Fry over high heat.
5) Add potatoes.
6) Mix in the rest of the ingredients.
7) Simmer until meat is tender

When Ayden first saw all the ingredients laid on the table, he almost fainted but bravely took up the challenge nevertheless

Here is the video of Ayden dishing out the ever so simple yet delicious Asian Style Chicken Stew using the rice cooker because he is too young to be handling a wok and a gas stove.

I must make sure I get invited to your house for dinner and Ayden can cook this for me. Hehehehehehe!!!! Same here, I would not cook anything with more than just a few ingredients, so lazy. LOL!!!

But these ingredients are usually already around at home so I don’t mind. I have been cooking this chicken stew for ages. Am glad Ayden can cook it now so he can take over. Haha.

This looks simple and safe for kids to learning cooking without using the real stove & fire. The colour of Ayden’s healthy chicken stew looks delicious with the carrots & potatoes.
