Teeth Scaling Experience

How often should we go to the dentist for teeth cleaning? I was told that we should visit the dentist every 6 months and get our teeth cleaned at least once a year. I know many of my friends make it a point to do scaling or whatever every year end or beginning of the year coz it is believed clean teeth leads to a healthier body.

Would you believe it if I tell you that I have not been to the dentist for almost 3 decades? The only reason I went to the dentist last year was to bring Ethan for his dental check-up.

I am one of those lucky ones with quite nice teeth lah *eceh eceh* I take brushing seriously. I don’t floss as often as I should but still I am blessed with beautiful teeth *big grin*

Last week though, as I was checking the insides of my mouth, I noticed a dark spot in between two teeth. I thought it was cavity and I panicked! I quickly told Darling and he swiftly made an appointment with the dentist for me.

I did not manage to sleep well the entire days leading to my dental appointment as I was not sure to what extend the damage of my teeth are. I kept imagining the dentist telling me the cavities are so bad that he will need to extract my teeth or do a root canal or don’t know what else.

Come Sunday, I had chicken rice and made sure I brushed my teeth clean and floss thoroughly before going to the dentist.

Upon thorough check-up, my dentist told me that I have no cavity. OMG such a relief! I can finally breathe again. The dark spot that I was worried about turns out to be just a plague.

He did however mentioned that my wisdom tooth is collecting a lot of ‘food’ and that it is advisable to have a sealant procedure on the chewing surfaces so that food doesn’t collect there anymore. What lah! My wisdom tooth is too smart that it is collecting food? For what? Winter?

And then he proceeded to dig the food out for me to see. Aiyo…… so shy me I dunno where to hide my face.

I agreed to have the tooth sealant procedure done on two molars and also requested to have scaling done as I have not cleaned my teeth for over 30 years! The dentist was quite surprised though as he said my teeth are quite alright eventhough I have not been a good girl for over 3 decades.

And so the torture began:
Teeth scaling experience

OMG! So MILU! I feel my bones jumping out of my body during the entire scaling procedure.

Whoever told me that scaling is such a fun experience, come here, let me smack you real hard now! The dentist kept apologising as he saw that I was obviously not enjoying the experience. He said I have sensitive teeth. He did his best to do it as gently as possible and get it over with soonest. He is the most patient dentist I have ever encountered. Haha.

15 minutes later, I have an extremely clean mouth. LoL! All that suffering is so worth it but let me save the scaling session for another 30 years or so. I told the dentist I’ll make another appointment when I am 60, without my teeth, so no need to scale already! >_<

Damage of the day – RM240 for 2 sealant procedure and one session of scaling.

The only reason they tell you must go every 6 mths is because if not, if everyone goes to the dentist once every 30 yrs like you, macam mana dia orang mau cari makan? XD

Ok…self confession. I no go dentist also for dinosaur years due to the bad experience when I was small. Hmmm…if got free dental check up, I will go la.Hahah

    • //

I don’t believe in scaling and I brush and floss my teeth daily until my enamel are all eroded. :(
I believe you when you say that scaling is terrible. It is and it can damage our enamel too.

    • //

So what do you do now that your enamels are eroded?

      • //

Not all enamels are totally gone, just some gone. Those gone parts will be sensitive to very cold and very hot food so just live with it and eat only not very cold and not very hot food lah! :)

Oh, I swear I commented and it seems like it didn’t post?

I was saying that I can totally relate. Haha! I know how it feels coz I just recently went for teeth scaling too. It was very geli, and can be quite uncomfortable. It’s one of those things which don’t feel good but it’s good for you. I always feel like my teeth is very clean after that.

    • //

Haha. You actually replied to my comment to your Invisalign treatment la.

I feel very clean too after scaling. So clean that I don’t want to eat anything fearing that I will dirty my teeth again ^_^
