The Spicy Sour Noodles @ Taipei Taipei

I’ve heard so much about Taipei Taipei’s signature pork chop.

My friend raved about how we don’t need to go to Taiwan anymore for their famous pork chop rice as we can get it right here at Taipei Taipei. Taipei Taipei is well-known for their pork cutlet marinated in herbs and spices and deep fried till it has a crispy coat yet tender and juicy inside.

My friend is from Cheras and he recommended us to go try their pork chop rice as he knows I am on a pork hunt. What my friend failed to tell me though is that Taipei Taipei also has an outlet in Sunway Giza. Sunway Giza! I am there at least twice a week! But I am at fault too partly as I did not do prior research before driving all the way to Cheras.

Anyway, here we are at Taipei Taipei Cheras Leisure Mall. It is my first time stepping into Cheras and I feel like I am in Taiwan already :P

Taipei Taipei is located on Level 1, Cheras Leisure Mall, opposite Sakae Sushi.

Bitter Gourd and Spare Ribs Soup with Tiny White Fish (RM8.90)

Bitter gourd soup is often consumed when the weather is hot as it is believed to have cooling effects. It was extremely hot last Saturday so we ordered this without hesitation. This soup is done right and has that pleasant bitter flavour in the sweet ribs soup.

Brown Sugar Red Bean Milk Tea (RM9.90) / Brown Sugar Grass Jelly Milk Tea (RM8.90)

Ayden insisted to have milk tea the moment he saw it on the menu. He has never drink milk tea but I guess the picture on the menu is extremely appealing to him that he kept asking for it. He wanted the red bean milk tea and I thought of letting him share it with big brother Ethan but Ethan only wants the grass jelly milk tea. Why like that?! So we ended up getting both >_<

I super like the red bean milk tea! Ayden too lah as shown in the picture above. I prefer the red bean to the grass jelly. I like it that the red bean paste infused tea is not too sweet.

The Daddy loves both while Ethan insisted that the grass jelly is more delicious.

Taiwanese Style Marinated Pork Chop with Rice (RM14.90)

Their signature pork cutlet served with steamed rice, vegetables, half an egg and braised tofu. I requested for the vegetables to be served separately in case they are spicy as this dish is for Ayden to share with the Daddy. Ayden enjoyed this pork chop rice a lot. The pork chop is soft enough for him and he has no trouble chewing them. The portion is quite huge. Even when shared with Daddy, they both had a lot to eat.

“Three Cups Chicken” with Rice / San Bei Ji (RM13.90)

Ethan had this aromatic dish of chicken in soy sauce, rice wine and sesame oil. It is also wonderfully loaded with garlic, ginger and basil giving it a bold and potent savoury flavour.

Chili dip was served together with this dish. I am not sure if the chili dip is for this particular dish only or it is generally served to all diners. I love their chili dip. It has anchovies in it.

A closer look at the sanbeiji chicken. Basil gives the chicken a refreshing distinct flavour. There is rice underneath the chicken. The Daddy had a quarter of it as it is a lot for Ethan alone.

The vegetables are the same as the ones with the pork chop rice.

There. Sedap punya chili dip. I ate all the anchovies in there.

Okay now, here’s the highlight of the day. I did not come here for this actually. I wanted to try any noodle dish since the boys all ate rice. Almost ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodles but the person taking our order recommended me to try this instead so I did.

Spicy Sour Noodles with Pork Chop (RM13.90)

We can choose to have the noodles with pork or chicken chop. I chose to have pork as I am after all on a pork hunt. But I soon realised that it is the same as the one in the pork chop rice. I should have tried chicken instead. But then again, it’s okay coz we all love the pork chop so we can’t possible go wrong.

It comes with vegetables too.

The glorious pork chop.

Simple looking noodles with braised egg and tofu too. I did not know what to expect when I ordered this.

When it was served before me, I thought to myself, “I should mix them all up” and so I did while thinking, “that is a whole lot of noodles!”

And then I took a spoonful of the noodles and everything went BOOM!

You know the recent craze of that Korean Spicy Noodles? How many of you did the challenge? I did and I found it just okay. I mean, it is delicious but it is only spicy and nothing much more to it. BUT THIS ONE HERE IS A KILLER!

It is spicy alright but it also has a sour undertone making it very appetising. I eat until ketiak basah (eventhough air cond was in full blast), eyes all watery I tell you. I was supposed to share this bowl of noodles with the Daddy but I think he got only 2 spoonfulls as without realising it, I actually polished the entire bowl myself *:-O surprise

I had to ask the staff that recommended this noodles to me and she shared with me that the noodles is topped with a special sauce from a mixture of 6-7 different sauce. First, chili is cooked with deep fried garlic to bring out the fragrance. It is then mixed with vinegar, Taiwanese soy sauce and sugar. It is then served with a mix of crushed garlic, finely cut chili, sesame oil and topped with fresh parsley. The result is AMAZINGLY explosive! The noodles is also very springy and has a nice bite to it.

Ethan and Daddy helped me eat the pork chop coz by now my stomach gonna explode dy as I finished the entire bowl of noodles. I don’t usually eat an entire bowl of noodles if you must know.

My tongue is numb at the end of my meal so I ordered drinks again.

I ordered the Jelly Ai Yu Aloe Lemon (RM11.90) while the Daddy ordered Honey Lemon Aloe (RM8.90) coz he said his tongue is on fire too as he took two spoonfulls of that Spicy Sour noodle.

It was a very satisfying late lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the Spicy Sour noodles. It has been a long time since I ate something that hits so many right notes.

I find the price to be pretty reasonable too don’t you think so?

I am definitely coming back for more but this time will be at the Sunway Giza outlet lah since that is basically my second or third home these days.

I am not a big eater hence the surprise that I can finish the entire bowl of noodles. I’m craving for it already again. Will go eat it this Friday as I’ll be going to Giza then :)

This looks really familiar. I thought it was at Hutong Lot 10 at first.

There’s a branch there which sells pork chop too, but it’s pork chop buns from Macau. This pork chop rice from Taiwan looks good though. I like the marinated Taiwanese pork chops, good stuff. I’ll be sure to try that and the 3 cups chicken.
