Debone Chicken @ 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice 新怡保鸡饭店
We were at Mid Valley Megamall for our very first laser tag experience at Galaxy Laser a week ago. We got hungry after that and together with some friends headed straight to 1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice 新怡保鸡饭店 that is situated on the same level as Galaxy Laser, on the left side of the Exhibition Centre.
1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice 新怡保鸡饭店, Mid Valley Megamall
Kampung Chicken (Whole Bird RM88)
What I like about dining here is their special debone chicken. It is their complimentary service to diners upon request when placing your order. Dining with kids, it is a big advantage when they can debone our chicken for us. I bet it is also popular among ladies who dislike to tear the chicken meat off the bones in public and risk staining our clothes.
The debone chicken has a better texture. It is not as tough as ordinary kampung chicken and is much easier to eat.
The sauce here also deserves a special mention as they use tau chau or in layman English – the light soy sauce made from the first pressing of the soybeans that we often refers to as premium light soy sauce. Similar to extra virgin olive oil, the flavour of the first pressing is considered superior and its delicate flavour is much sought after.
Ipoh Bean Sprout (Big RM15)
The bean sprouts here is of the right size and crunchy. Bean sprouts are grown in containers of many levels. The top part lacks mineral while the bottom level is smaller in size due to lack of sunlight. Therefore, to ensure good quality bean sprouts, I was told that they only purchase the middle level ones that got enough sunlight and mineral for optimal growth. Their bean sprouts are sourced from Buntong, Ipoh’s best suppliers of bean sprout that is located near hills with lots of underground mineral water.
Roasted & Honey BBQ Pork (RM20)
Besides chicken, the boys always request for this roasted and honey bbq pork combo. The juicy siew yoke with perfectly crisp crackling skin and fragrant with meltingly soft texture char siew is a must-have.
Signature Fried Roasted Pork (RM25)
Another way to enjoy the siew yoke is by having it fried. It is first roasted and then fried with their homemade sweet black soy sauce and onion.
Pork Ball Soup (RM2/pcs)
Homemade huge pork balls. I prefer their fish balls though as I am not a fan of meat balls.
Buttermilk Fish Fillet (RM25)
The fish fillet is coated with salted egg butter milk. The salted egg brings this dish up a notch higher.
Stir Fried Lala in Superior Soup (RM25)
This is a seasonal dish. It is only available if they have good quality lala to serve. The lala is cooked in soup from the steamed chicken with ginger, garlic, chili padi and tauchu sauce.
Hokkien Mee (RM14.90)
We also had their hokkien mee. I can detect that smoky taste as the noodles are cooked over charcoal fire.
If you are ever dropping by here to eat, do remember to request them to debone the chicken for you. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it makes to the texture of the chicken and your whole dining experience. The deboning service is complimentary so go for it :D
Wah, you put words on your photos making them look like magazine cover – so pro! :)
Your photos look so sharp and clear, making all the dishes look even more delicious, especially the chicken, the char siew and the siew yoke
MV? How come I did not see when I was in KL, staying around there? Just open kah? Aiyaaaaa…no bone cannot suck suck syiok syiok liao lor!!! :D
I think I read this place before from your blog. I remember because of the year. The year I were born. ^^
The chicken looks good. Yes, debone sound good too but somehow I prefer the chicken attached with bone. Haha.
Somehow bean sprout goes well with chicken rice.
oh you wrote dy. yay! time to ….. tiru! :P ..
Oh this is one of my favorite chicken rice places too.
They used to be located in the middle of MidValley and Gardens, where Din Tai Fung is right now. They closed down that place though. They also have another place (the original) in Selangor, it was the first one I went too, around 2004 I think.
Didn’t know they have such debone service :P
I was not aware too until that day. Maybe this is their new service coz the last I dined in their PJ outlet last year, there was no such service too.
