Blood Test
We brought Ethan to the clinic in the evening as it is already the 4th day of fever and the paed just gave Nurofen to control his fever. Unfortunately his fever did not subside and by midnight it was as high as 40.4C!
We panicked and quickly brought him to the ER at that is situated about 10 minutes drive away from our house to test for dengue.
Little Ayden tried to cheer the obviously unwell big brother Ethan.
He managed to put a smile on Ethan’s face :)
Mission accomplished :D <3
Ayden even accompanied Ethan during check-up.
But I took Ayden away when they wheeled Ethan in to take his blood. I brought Ayden to the hospital playground while Darling accompanied Ethan. Poor Ethan cried so loud when his blood was taken as the nurse could not draw blood out from his hand. She poked and poked yet no blood comes out that she had to call for the doctor’s help. By then Ethan was so traumatised that he screamed his lungs out due to the pain :(
This was Ayden, bored to the bones while waiting for the entire ordeal to be over. We went home after they managed to get Ethan’s blood sample. I tucked the boys to sleep while Darling drove back to the hospital at 1am to collect the test result.
Thank goodness it was NEGATIVE! Ethan is not down with dengue. Such a relief. Now, we will need to control that fever of his. He should be as good as new by the end of the week.
How is Ethan doing now??? I heard drinking coconut juice could cool down the fever.
Thank god it is not dengue.
I’ve given him lots of barley water. Tried looking for fresh coconuts but could not find them :( Will be looking again today and tomorrow.
He must be under the weather. It is very hot these few days, We adult also cannot tahan the heat. Please give them more fluid, I hope Ethan is recovering soon. You stay easy, Merryn.
That’s very true, Yannie. The weather is horrible lately. I’m making sure he is properly hydrated. Ayden too.
It may be Influenza A. I heard there is an outbreak in some schools.
Cass just recovered from it last week. Fever also shot up to 40.3C for 2 days and remained at 39-40C on the 3rd day.
Fortunately, I managed to self treat her. I wrote about my ordeal too in my blog
Speedy recovery Ethan!
Get well soon Ethan!
Good to know that it wasn’t dengue and Influenza A. May Ethan get well soon.
Oh…poor Ethan. If I have a choice, I would not want to go TMC.
Wishing Ethan speedy recovery and glad to see the lil brother is there to cheer him up.
Take care, mommy.
Poor little boy, his face so red in the photo. Hope he is better now~ U also take care ya my dear, must be very tired of jaga a sick boy + the active Ayden >_<
good news is that not dengue…the old folks always say children grow taller after fever. Get well soon Ethan.
Same thing happened to my girl when she was a toddler, blood is not come out till after she was poked three or four times and only then did she start crying – no, Ethan, she did not cry at first, Ethan!!! I was so angry as the nurse scolded her, cry, cry…what is there to cry about? I felt like taking the needle and stabbing her, see she will cry or not. Btw, I was told that blood usually is slow in coming out in the early morning.
Ummmm…the two boys should not be together if one is sick, may be something infectious and the other will get it too.
There! I told you so! One is sick, keep the other one far far away…or be on the watch out. Often, kid sick…mama also sick…papa also sick! Usual case, some can be really contagious.
Glad Ethan is ok now. Get well soon!
Aiyo, I come back from Europe just to see so many people fall sick, and now Ethan too! This heat is really unbearable!
Poor Ethan he looks so weak..thank god he is cleared from dengue and influenza.
Hope his fever go away soon! Faith just recovered from influenza A..I think got it from school.
Sorry to hear about Ethan!
I heard you were coming on Saturday but couldn’t make it coz he was sick. Good to hear that it’s not dengue though, lots of people are getting dengue now. I find that getting the cool pads (the things you put in the freezer and then take out and put on your head) is very nice for fevers. It helped a lot when I got dengue, my better half got them for me and it was really cooling. Very awesome if you have a fever.
Hope he gets well soon, drink plenty of fluid regardless, that always helps…
Very similar to Nicole’s case before CNY. She was having fever and it didn’t subsides after 3 days and the doc also worried , when we brought her back to clinic. He suggested to admit her she shows signs of dengue as the doc did a simple blood test on her as he didn’t have the full test set for dengue. We brought to the outpatient clinic and after spending almost a day there , due to the crowd , the blood test was negative and just a viral infection … Phew !
Poor thing, I think Mummy must feel heart pain also, get well soon boy, my nephew also down with fever recently but he recovered only still coughing
I think the weather is the culprit, it was so damn hot lately!! And stuffy too! Must make them drink plenty of water, and increase on vitamin C and fruits.
