Top Reason to Eat at Rail Canteen

We are always spending time in Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara during the weekdays as I have my stuffs to settle over there. That gives us a lot of opportunities to go food hunting around that area. There is this new township Sunway Nexis, the latest development from Sunway City located next to its ‘elder sibling’ Sunway Giza.

We found our new favourite Nasi Lemak there at Rail Canteen, Sunway Nexis.

Rail Canteen

I like their cosy and comfortable ambiance. You can choose to sit on stools for a quick meal or take your time and relax on their chairs or benches.

We always come here for their Nasi Lemak. My favourite is their Nasi Lemak with Ayam Berempah.

Nasi Lemak ayam berempah

Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah (RM12.50)

If this is your first time here, I’d recommend you to have this. The chicken is perfectly marinated with fresh herbs and I just can’t have enough of the aromatic flavours of this fried chicken. It has a crunchy skin with a super tender meat. It comes with a choice of 5 sambals to choose from: sambal udang, sambal ikan bilis, sambal kerang, sambal bawang and sambal sotong. You’ve got to try them all as their sambals is another winner.

Nasi lemak

Look who else is loving the fragrant coconut rice. This boy is a huge fan of their nasi lemak too. He can even eat some of the chicken!

Let me show you another angle of the ayam berempah. Seriously I can’t have enough of it.

Nasi lemak ayam berempah

Look at THAT! Drool! This is the reason I kept coming back. They do have other types of Ayams such as ayam rendang and ayam masak merah but this ayam berempah is still KING to me. You don’t see me eating other stuffs here in Rail Canteen except this Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah ^_^

Okay, maybe I lied. You might catch me eating their delicious and appetising Meehoon Siam too because this is one of the better meehoon siams around. I used the word ‘better’ because my Mom makes the BEST meehoon siam lah! :P

Mee siam

Meehoon Siam (RM6.50).

Served with shredded omelet and a piece of kalamansi lime to give it an extra tangy kick and also a dollop of their famous sambal on the side.

I like that their meehoon siam is authentic and spicy with the right punch unlike many other kopitiams that served basically normal fried meehoon made a bit spicy but named it meehoon siam >_<

They do serve Meehoon Siam with Ayam Berempah at RM12.50 too and I will get that if I am craving for both their meehoon and the chicken.

Spaghetti

Spaghetti Chicken Mushroom (RM8.90)

The third item that we mostly have here is the spaghetti chicken mushroom as this is the boys’ favourite. Whenever we dine here with the boys, this is the only thing they (or rather Ethan) will request for. Ayden will basically eat a little of this and lots of my nasi lemak. They are very generous with the mushrooms much to the boys’ delight.

Can you see a happy Ayden waiting for the spaghetti to get into his mouth? LoL!

Yeah, so that is basically the top 3 favourite food of ours here in Rail Canteen. We did try other items on their menu so let me share them too.

Mee Rebus (RM11.50)

Taste wise, this mee rebus is okay but I personally feel the portion is a tad too small.

Curry Noodles

Mee Kari (RM11.50)

They serve pretty decent curry noodles here too. Although many people shun away from cockles in their curry mee these days, I would prefer if they have fresh and juicy cockles right at the top of my noodles. I believe that would make the perfect curry noodles.

Chicken chop

Black Pepper Chicken Chop (RM16.90)

We ordered this once for the kids. It has a crispy skin with tender and moist meat inside. I like it but the boys are not accustomed to eating black pepper so I decided to get something else for them while I polish this clean. Ethan enjoyed the fries and coleslaw though.

Sometimes, we drop by Rail Canteen for tea while waiting to pick Ethan up from class. I’ll just order some snacks to alas perut then. My favourite snacks here are their sambal bun and roti bakar. Every once in a while I do indulge in their Kopi Cheese Cake too as that cake is simply awesome.

Roti sambal

Bun Sambal Special (RM4.50)

Buns with sambal fillings can seldom go wrong and the ones here are always right. I can have this anytime, anyday.

Roti Bakar (RM3.50)

Darling and Ayden prefer to have this fragrant toast though. Maybe because they can’t tolerate too much spiciness in their food so this toast with the right mix of crunchiness and sweetness fares better.

coffee cake

Kopi Cheese Cake (RM9.80)

I have to really control myself when it comes to cakes. This Kopi Cheese Cake is a must-try. You must at least try it once then you know that you’ll want to have more. Coffee and cheese flavours mingle perfectly in this sinfully delicious cheesecake. I’m not a coffee person but I don’t mind having this repeatedly.

As for their drinks, they are well-known for their coffee but because neither Darling nor I drink coffee, we have never ordered their coffee. We only order ONE particular drink each time we are here because I fell in love with it the first time I had it and never wanted to try others.

ice dragon promeganate

Ice Dragon Passion (RM6.80)

I’m talking about this refreshing and cool dragon fruit drink with passionfruit. It is sweet with bold fruity aroma. It makes a nice drink to compliment the hearty meal we have here. I can never have enough of this and that Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah. Oh me, oh my, I’m craving for it again…

The nasi looks ok ok only lah, actually nasi lemak cannot determine their quality by the look of the nasi also right? The winner is ayam and the sambal. They use fresh cockles is an indicator that they serve authentic food and not usual food court crap.

Meehoon Siam is my favourite among all…I feel like having supper by looking at these food photos..

I will go for the ayam berempah and mee hoon siam! Definitely want to try the different sambal too. Don’t know when can go so far there to taste this.

Drooling over the ayam goreng, i can’t resist this! Price seem quite cheap for that portion too..
