Our Hunt For Coin-Counting Machines

It took the kids quite some time to collect this much coins:
depositing coins

But it took us longer to find a coin-counting machine that works. We went to many banks, searching high and low only to be told that their coin-counting machines are out of order OR their cut out time is 11am. Who on Earth goes out to deposit coins so early? Okay maybe it is only ME who does not leave the house before noon… pfft.

I almost gave up and got tempted to deposit these coins in the coin machine in AEON in exchange for their cash vouchers but refrained as the idea of carrying these heavy coins to 1Utama simply doesn’t make sense.

Today, we were at Maybank Kota Damansara (the one with A&W drive-thru) and casually enquire if they have a coin-counting machine. To our surprise they do AND their cut off time is 3pm! This makes more sense to me :D

We proceeded with counting of the coins. It is so easy these days. Just dump everything into their coin-counting machine and the machine will not only count but separate them accordingly. Imagine counting those coins manually. It will take us forever!

Even with this machine, it took us quite awhile. Finally, we were told that there were RM543 worth of coins in there excluding the ‘rejected’ ones. The rejected ones are coins of different currencies and some local ones but with not so standard size I guess and also our 1cent coins. 1cent coins are not wanted anymore.

I deposited that RM543 into both the boys’ account. That means they each got RM271.50 richer that day, so much richer than their mother already ^_^

I also have so many coins at home. Nag hubby on what to do with them or when to change in banks but never get down to it. So many coins around. Haha.

Not bad. The boys are richer now by few hundreds ringgit!!

You can drive. Bring the coins to the bank. I can’t drive so I had to wait until the hubs is available but when he is, the machine is out of order. That is why it took us so long to deposit all these coins. From one container until three.

Waiyor!!!!! So kaya… Give me some!!!

    • //

Come come. Come to KL. The boys can treat you to a good meal dy :D

aiyoh next time do it progressively lah.. use small plastic bags to keep like RM10 each, you don’t need to count one shot which can probably kill you, you don’t need to bring to the bank and kena service charge PLUS GST.. you also can easily monitor your progress with just counting the number of bags – how much so far and how far to target.. :)

    • //

Is it? I don’t even realise we kena GST coz she told us the total amount is RM543 and she banked in RM271.50 each for Ethan and Ayden. It is stated in their savings account book too. I don’t see any charges?

You can bring to hawkers in Penang, I read somewhere hawkers in Penang are having a hard time getting coins from banks, they would love to do business with you.

    • //

Bring to PENANG?!! Harlow! Petrol oso kenot cover weh!

  • //

I always make deposit at Maybank coz they got room and count for me.. in MV, I just dump my coins there for them to count, and by 3pm, viola, account credited.. LOL!

    • //

Yes, here oso we went into the room for them to count the coins. But the one in Giza lousy one. Always out of service and only until 11am >_<

  • //

miss the coint collecting times when we put it in the large golden pig.

    • //

Fuh! Where’s your large golden pig now?

  • //

Are you going to encourage them to save more coins? Or you give them notes paper money to save instead.

    • //

I’m not giving them any paper notes to save. Their paper notes are twice a year affair from CNY and birthday angpow collection. The rest of the year they’ll have to rajin-rajin kutip the coins on the floor and keep in a bottle until full then will go into their bank account :D

      • //

But why are there coins on the floor? Who threw them there?

        • //

Dropped out from the pocket of Daddy’s pants.

  • //

Me too, I have coin piggy banks for both my girls.
They have stopped feeding the piggy banks every day. They only do that when they remember. Hahaha

    • //

Haha. Where do they store their money then if they do not feed their piggy anymore?

  • //

Can take photo of the bank office?
