Rice Cooker Cakes: Marble Butter Cake

We are getting very comfortable baking using our rice cooker these days with the many successful cakes that we’ve baked. Today, I’m going to let my little helper do most of the work because it is that easy :)

If little Ayden can do it, so can YOU! Watch this video:

We’ll be baking this beautiful and equally delicious Marble Butter Cake. It is actually similar to the butter cake we baked previously but nicer looking lah with the brown streaks :P

Ingredients:

200g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
160g sugar
250g butter at room temperature (I used salted butter)
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
3 tsp cocoa or MILO powder
25ml fresh milk

Scoop some out and mix with cocoa powder but since I don’t have any cocoa powder, I used MILO and it turned out alright :)

Grease the rice cooker pot and drop a scoop of the butter batter in.

Alternate with the chocolate batter and repeat with the butter and continue alternating until all the batter is in the pot.

Like this. Don’t mind the mess. After all, it is the work of my 21 months old. Haha. I don’t even bother leveling it. Just pop it into the rice cooker and let it bake.

50 minutes later, a beautiful and fragrant cake appeared before our eyes.

It is so good and texture is just perfect! The texture is exactly like oven-baked. It has the perfect thin crust on the sides and bottom.

Chill lah. Let’s eat. The cake is still good for breakfast and tea the next day ^_^

    • //

    • //

I deliberately make him wear something lah as I get too many comments on my topless baker :P

  • //

  • //

Well done Ayden! What a little baker. This cake looks really delicious. Will you be baking cakes everyday from now on since it seems so easy?

    • //

Haha. Not everyday lah. As for now we bake like once every 2 to 3 days.

  • //

You secretly training Ayden to be able to join MasterChef Junior Asia edition?

  • //

    Hi Merryn

I tried this recipe. My cake turns out great. Looking forward to more rice cooker cake recipes.
Ayden looks great too! He has the same name as my youngest boy who is 32 months old now.

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi,
I love the look of your cake and want to try:)

I do not have a beater, will it still turn out? I’m afraid the cake will be flat and not fluffy like yours.

My rice cooker has a bake function 10 cup (I think 1.8L but the recipes I tried before using the enclosed booklet were all so dense and awful that I gave up.

    Your cakes look inspirational though!!
*****what size is your cooker please? Is it the same size as mine?
    Thanks.
    Su

      Hi Su,

Having a mixer will definitely makes work easier. However you can still beat the butter and sugar by hand (but that will be a lot of work).

My rice cooker has a capacity to cook up to 6 cups of rice only so I guess it is smaller than yours?

Do try my recipe. I love how it turns out and for me, this recipe is a keeper :)

  • //

can i use plain flour instead of self raising flour?

  • //

My rice cooker is the same P brand, just bigger capacity. Do you take out the cake ASAP after you hear the alarm sound of doneness, or can leave the cake in the rice cooker for a while (leave it warm, like cooking rice)? Thanks.

    • //

      Hi Yan Ying Lie,

I’ll take it out to air cool and not leave it in the pot. I’ve never left it under keep warm mode so am not sure what will happen though.

  • //

Hi – I followed your recipe and the cake is really delicious. I added food colours instead of just cocoa powder though. Wanted to attach the collage but can’t see how to attach the photo to this post.
