Rice Cooker Cakes : Butter Cake

I baked butter cake using my rice cooker last week. This is by far the most successful cake baked using my rice cooker. The texture of the cake is exactly like those oven baked cakes except the top layer is pale and not brown. The amount of ingredients used makes it just perfect when it comes to the thickness of the cake. This is also the first cake (baked using my rice cooker) that requires the use of a mixer.

Rice Cooker Bake Butter Cake 8

Ingredients:

200g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
160g sugar
250g butter (I used salted butter)
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla essence
25ml fresh milk

Method:

Using mixer, beat sugar and butter till fluffy.

Add egg (one at a time) and mix until creamy. Add vanilla essence.

Rice Cooker Bake Butter Cake method 2

Add flour and baking powder.

Rice Cooker Bake Butter Cake method 3

Fold the flour mixture manually without using the electric mixer. It helps if you have a cute little helper :) Lastly, add milk.

Rice Cooker Bake Butter Cake method 4

Rub the used butter pack onto the pot to grease it.

Pour the cake mixture into the rice cooker pot. Place into the rice cooker and set to CAKE.

The rice cooker will automatically switch off after 45 minutes or so.

The top of the cake is pale compared to oven baked cakes but the texture inside is excellent.

Hmmmm….I think I can try also. Similar to my pancake recipe…just use self-raising flour. That kid sure looks serious, masterchef in the making.

  • //

Looks good. Now I wonder whether my ordinary rice cooker can bake cake.

  • //

He is learning the joys of baking and cooking early on. Good job!

  • //

    Bravo!

  • //

Now Ayden knows that when he helped out with the cake, he will get to eat it one hour later! The cake looks really tasty. I like.

Hi, tried your recipe on my Tefal rice cooker today. And it works! Turns out nice and tasty. My wife was surprised I did it! My first cake! Many thanks for the recipe! Cheers!

    • //

That’s great Larry. So glad your first cake turned out a success :)

  • //

Pls adv the size of ur rice cooker? I’m using a 10cups Philips Rice Cooker with Cake Function. Going to try it out today & will update thereafter!

  • //

Done! It’s so awesome! Loving it to the max. It’s soft, buttery and even has a crispy exterior except the TOP surface only. A recipe to keep! Feeling great achievement today! All must try…u will NEVER REGRET!

    • //

Glad you love it Jennifer. We’ve been baking this too during this restriction movement period

Made it for the first time today. Super easy and it tastes so delicious Btw, my rice cooker is zojirushi 5.5 cups, so it automatically stops “baking” at 45 mins. When I opened, the cake wasn’t ready, so I had to press another cycle of 45 mins. And ta-dah, perfectly rounded and fluffy cake in front of my eyes. Will definitely bake again. Thank you for sharing

Hi, may i know the size of your mixing bowl, in liter, quart or cm/inch? I need to know this as i’m using an electronic Hand mixer instead of the typical stand one, hence i need to estimate suitable size of mixing bowl to avoid unnecessary splash or overflow which is messy.

I appreciate it if u could reply once u read this.

    Thanks.

Tried on my Tefal rice cooker. Cake turns out fluffy indeed. However, is not moist enough. What should i add or reduced in order to get a rich moist butter cake?

  • //

I tried baking using my ordinary Panasonic rice cooker so I had to press the cook button on three cycles allowing it to cook in “warm”. However, the outcome was worth the effort. The best butter cake I have baked thus far. Fantastic recipe and thank you so much. Btw, I have also tried your orange cake…can’t describe the heavenly taste. Keep posting recipes and thank you once again.

    • //

      Hi Renu,

Wow you are very adventurous to use your ordinary rice cooker to bake. Haha. Glad you like the outcome. Yes, the orange cake is one of our favourite <3

Hi Merryn, anything that I can replace with milk? Like water? Or can I omit it?

I tried it out but my cake easily break up till can’t hold it, any idea?

    • //

      Hi Eunice,

Milk actually helps to keep the cake moist. Without milk, the cake is coarse and dry

  • //

hi! The milk for the cake is 25ml or 250ml? Thank you!

    • //

      Hi, it is 25ml.
