Rice Cooker Baked Bananas in Spring Roll Skin
Since I got my new rice cooker, I’ve been abusing it with baking rather than cooking rice. LoL. This is to compensate my many years of being unable to bake due to a faulty oven wiring at home :(
Today, I tried baking bananas in spring roll skin aka popiah pisang. Only two ingredients needed – spring roll skin and banana.
I sliced the banana in half and wrapped it with the spring roll skin.
I baked it in my rice cooker using the CAKE function. I lost track of time as I was playing with Ayden while waiting. I had to flip it once during baking. Baked until it turned golden.
The result is a delicious caramelized banana in crunchy spring roll skin but it looked kind of deflated as I halved the banana earlier.
Look who can’t wait to eat!
I tried again using a whole banana and this time instead of using the rice cooker, I just pan fried it using my Tefal non-stick pan.
It was quicker using the pan but I personally think that it did not achieve the result I wanted. I guess we’ll have to either deep fry this or bake it. Pan frying won’t do the trick.Â
Ayden loves this Popiah Pisang and can eat two whole bananas at one serving.Â
OK lah. Will whip this up again some day as a delicious, quick and healthy snack. Imagine eating it with ice-cream! Oh man… Slurp! :)

Nice nice. Never thought of wrapping banana in popiah skin.
Definitely tasty! Guess you will bake it again using the rice cooker since pan fry did not achieve the result that you like.
No oil needed when baking using rice cooker? Just use bake function n remove when it turns brown on both sides? Roughly how long will it take?
Jocelyn, I did not use any oil for the rice cooker. I do not remember how long it took to brown both sides though maybe you can try 8-10 mins each?
