Coconut Water to Beat the Heat

Many people are falling ill under this torturous weather. I boil barley frequently for the family as they (especially Ethan) are getting really heaty from being out in this scorching heat. Ayden and I are quite okay as we spend most of our time in the comfort of our home but Ethan and the father are always out and it is important to keep them well hydrated. Ethan’s nose bleed episodes are getting more frequent and even Ayden got it once the other day.

Try as I might, Ethan has finally succumbed and got under the weather today. I noticed he was emitting heat when he was seated next to me during dinner. Touched him and true enough, he was feverish.

Being well hydrated is really important especially when you are having fever. To be well hydrated, our body requires electrolytes, which balance out our blood chemistry. Coconut water is a good source of electrolytes. I ordered a coconut drink for him but as usual, this boy of mine doesn’t like to drink coconut water or any fruit juices. I forced him to take at least 3 sips to replenish his electrolyte reserves as he attended Physical Education earlier today despite being unwell.

From young, Ethan won’t touch coconut. Even during holidays, he’ll just leave the coconut there untouched.

Ayden on the other hand, enjoys every sip of the fragrant coconut water which is a good thing as coconut water has essential vitamins and minerals.

It is definitely better to beat the heat with coconut water as it is sweet with fewer calories compared to Ais Kacang or Ice Cream lah.

yeah.. coconut water is nice and i love it!! but have to make sure the air kelapa is kosong (i.e. no sugar) only it will be more beneficial, or am i not right?? Ethan doesn’t drink any fruit juice at all?? so that is why you cook barley often??

    • //

Yes, we drink air kelapa kosong. Ethan doesn’t drink any fruit juice at all. He doesn’t eat fruits too. Notty boy like that wan lah.

I cooked barley to help cool him down a bit lah. The weather has been so hot and then suddenly rains…

  • //

Sam has weak lung and always coughing, I seldom give her coconut drink. But when she get to drink it, it’s like very precious for her, hehe :P

    • //

Poor Sam. I hope her lungs get stronger as she grows older.

Weather is not good since CNY. I love coconut juice too. Heard it helps to relieve fever too. So when Jan was down with fever, I let her drink coconut juice to cool her down.

    • //

Yes, I heard it relieves fever too and especially good for chicken pox.

Can drink 100 PLUS too, it has similar function to coconut water. But since it is gaseous, cannot drink too much lah :)

    • //

I don’t like 100 Plus. My kids don’t like it too. Better drink coconut water lah :P

I wonder why Ethan does not like to drink coconut water. He does not like the taste of it?

Ayden is so unlike his older brother as can be seen from the photo that he loves his coconut water.

Recently I discovered to my horror that at the mamak stall, they put in spoonful of sugar into the fresh young coconut before serving it. After that I always make sure to tell them not to put in any sugar when I order coconut water.

    • //

Oh that’s bad of the Mamaks to do that. The coconut we bought is fragrant unopened coconuts until it reaches our table. Then we have to dig it open ourselves. Sometimes I can’t open it then I have to get the staffs to help me but they’ll do it in front of me.

As for green young coconut, my hubby usually buys from the road side and cut open himself at home. He does that for me 3 times a week during the last stage of pregnancy with both Ethan and Ayden last time. Now that I’m not pregnant, he lazy dy. When I requested for coconut, he says go buy that fragrant coconut -.-
