Would you let your kid play in puddles?
Ethan loves watching Upin dan Ipin. Actually I love watching them too as they feature the life and adventures of the good old kampung lifestyle. Just the other day, we were watching an episode where the cute twins went fishing and Ethan asked me, “Mommy, how come we never go fishing? How come we never do what they do?” I did not know what to answer him. I did whatever Upin and Ipin did but how come my sons don’t? Are we too protecting them?
Today is the first day of the year end school holidays and it had to rain. It rained so heavily but stopped just in time for the kids to go to the playground. But the playground was so wet that nothing much can be done there. It felt so weird seeing Ethan tip toeing to avoid stepping on wet grass. I asked him why and he answered, ‘GELI’. That was when I realised my urban child needs some exposure to the real world.
I told him to walk into the puddle but he refused. I put Ayden down and that little hero explored the wet grass and puddles instantly. He doesn’t know the word ‘geli’ so nothing is stopping him. Seeing how happy he was, Ethan started to follow suit and soon enough, both of them are seen running and splashing around.
Ayden loves running in the puddle of water.
The big brother Ethan laughing at Ayden after he made a big splash that wet his pants.
Ayden even touched the grass in the puddle of water and I let him.
I let both of them run and make a mess of themselves. You can watch the video of them running and jumping in the puddle of water here. The sight of them all wet and dirty is scary but the laughter and smiles on their faces are priceless. It is the school holidays after all. This is the time for them to explore and be close to nature. Now I am thinking of bringing them fishing one of these days. That would require proper planning though as I am afraid of fixing the bait. Hmm…

You should bring them out for camping… Hahaha
I was just telling their father that just now but he brushed the idea aside. He said it is not safe to camp these days with the mozzies and all…
Actually mozzies from the jungle is different from the city. They are more organic while those in the city are more mutated. Lol!
But if you’re going to hike and camp then mozzie shouldn’t be a problem but of course that would be without Ayden.
Or maybe some riverside or waterfalls nearby around Klang Valley… :)
I had my share of that. Every kid’s childhood delight… Hmmm…the papa so protective kah?
Hmm.. maybe not puddles, but I imagine that I’d like to bring my kids go camping when I have them…
I saw the video yesterday through your FB wall. I love watching Ayden. He is cute.
It is good to let the children explore the nature and get dirty like this, but I missed out that when my two girls were still small. I am a very protective mom.
Yes, better to let them get dirty some time.
Eh my son also loves Upin and Ipin! He can watch the same video over and over, haha!
Yes, why not if I have children.
I did twice and seriously hard to wash off the dirt from the shirts..It’s havoc fun.hahahha
Sam scare to wet her feet too, she will scream like mad and ask to clean it immediately >_<
