China Pee Pee Boys
Darling and I went to China back in 2005. We climbed the Great Wall of China. Climbing wasn’t a problem but I almost burst my knee cap coming down from there >_<
Why the sudden reminisce? Because I was cleaning my cabinet and came across this cutie:
I remember seeing many of these cute little terracotta boys in China (or so we thought) that turns out to be clay statues of a naked little boy.
I never thought much about it but just told Darling to buy many of them back as I assumed they must be the hottest souvenirs from China. It turned out to be that these clay toys are actually a tea toy or better known as Pee Pee Boys.
This tea toy is designed to tell you when your morning tea water is hot enough. We need to soak this statue in water overnight and when you wake in the morning to boil water for tea you take it out and dry it. Pour hot water onto his head and if he pees, your water is hot enough.
It has been sitting in my cabinet since 2005 so last night I decided to soak it.
I poured warm water over it first and then soak. Water sipped into it easier that way.
The next day, I took it out and dried it. I placed it on a plate and get the boys to come watch MAGIC!
I poured hot water onto it and woolah, it PEED!
Haha! The boys got so excited seeing this tea pet pee!
I even recorded it. Here’s a video of Pee Pee Boy peeing :P
In case you are wondering how it works, in simple Science, the cool water inside the Pee Pee Boy expands when hot water is poured onto the Tea Pet making it flow out from you know where lah. Fuh, 9 years this fella has been holding his pee, finally tonight, he gets to release it all out :P

So cute!!! I want! I want! Christmas is coming!!! Hehehehehe!!!! Ummmm…the head reminds you of something? :P
The head reminds me of what Arthur? Care to elaborate? LoL!
It’s very cute! I’ve never seen anything like this after staying in China for so long BUT I do see real pee-pee boys everywhere haha. The toddlers here like to wear pants with a big opening at the crotch where they can conveniently pee whenever and wherever they feel like it (the parents let them) even in the middle of a busy walkway or at subway station platforms! Terrible…
Serious? I’ve heard about those boys with opening at the crotch but never thought that it is real!
Haha. So cute. Not really can get this in Malaysia.
I’ve not seen this being sold in Msia .. yet. Haha.
I was thinking the pee pee boys brought you luck, and coincidentally you got 2 lovely boys :)
I believe so too, Alice. They do say that these little pee pee boys are in a way, lucky charms too. We did not know that when we bought it. Only when I did more research into it that I found out. And now I’m glad I bought it :)
Maybe Ayden will think, why this tiny little guy can pee further than me? I need more practice! :D
Hahahahahahahaha! So true, so true! LoL!
Wow, it can win the long pee competition already. Pee can reach so far!!! Never seen this before. So unique!
Cute, but does it really that practical? Hmm…. hehe
I was also in Beijing and the tour bus dropped us off at a tea house. To make a story short, we also witness and received the peeing boy as a token or souvenir.
Actually, no need to put the boy in the water overnight. You can use a empty syringe filled with water and insert the water to the peeing boy’s penis. Just need to be extra careful not to poke yourself with the syringe.
So my boyfriend went to China last May and got this tea pet and I accidentally broke it this morning. I’ve been looking around the internet for an authentic Chinese store that sells this exact one (Pee pee boy with a hat). Does anyone know of a website other than amazon that I could get another one from?
Hello! Thank you for documenting this. I am a science teacher in India, and wish to teach thermal expansion to my students. I was wondering if I could use your video (with proper credit acknowledgement ) in my online live class? The students would love it!
Please let me know,
