Stop Saying My Toddler Is Skinny

One of my greatest pet peeves as a mother is when people see my toddler and start going, “Oh he’s so skinny!” I got that with Ethan and now history repeats with Ayden.

Ethan in the sink

This was Ethan @ 14 months old

Not skinny

This is Ayden at almost 14 months old.

Both Ethan and Ayden were born small but caught up and tripled their birth weight in no time. They have chubby cheeks as a baby but people will still tell me that they are thin or some extreme ones will go, “He is so skinny!” It doesn’t end there. These people will normally continue with, “My son/daughter/nephew/niece/pig is about your son’s age and you should see him/her. He/She is SO CHUBBY!” Oh? I’m sorry but I did not notice that we are at the wet market buying meat by weight?

It amazes me how Ayden (and Ethan then) can be labelled skinny! It’s not like he is all skin and bones. Look at him. Just look at him! I admit that he is not fat but he is definitely not skinny. Maybe he is slim but please do not tell me that he is skinny! And what is worse is when these people continue asking, “Is he still on breast milk?” OMG! At 14 months old, Ayden is already on solid food. If you think breast milk makes him skinny, what about the rice, bread and PORK BELLY FATS that I’ve been feeding him? Don’t freaking blame it on my breast milk!

I, myself is not a very big person. I am petite so don’t compare my kids to those whose mothers are 165 cm tall and weighs 60 kg.

I am not fattening Ayden up for the morning market so stop saying that he is skinny. His paed is happy with his development. He is growing well and happy and that is all that matters to me. If you really have to say it, say it to ME. Tell me I’m skinny. That will certainly make my day. Thank you.

You are definitely very skinny! No one would dispute if I call you hot mommy! ;)
I’ve heard those “skinny” comments, I don’t understand why some aunties do it. Are they trying to be polite? I thought as a general rule, parents don’t like it when people call their babies skinny.

    • //

Yeah lor. No moms like to hear their babies being called skinny. Macam tak cukup makan like that.. :( But you can call me skinny anytime. An aunty can never be too skinny :P

  • //

  • //

Mana ada skinny!!! Those people’s kids – overfed, overweight…sure will have weight problems when they grow up. But yes, Mummy’s skinny…so very skinny, must eat more. :D

Wahaha! My babies (esp 1st and 3rd) were pretty “meaty” but once they reached 1 year old they started to slim down. My 2nd was the skinniest one. I would prefer a lighter baby as easier to carry. And I dont have backaches from carrying them.

I saw some babies (smaller than my Jamie) in Sibu and all sooooo huge and chubby! I dont know, the Sibu babies are all big size. Wonder what they eat!!!

    • //

LoL! Must be all the kampua and pian sip! Haha

  • //

How those people judged Ayden & Ethan whether they are skinny or fat? Weird weird weird!!! For me, as long as my kid is healthy, that’s all I need!

    • //

Yeah lor. Ethan yang last time chubby oso they say skinny. Now Ayden yg not so chubby lagi kena say skinny lor..

  • //

“people” around me pun cakap my baby skinny sbb still BF (T_____T) i was like, duh.as long as doktor ckp my baby sihat,y should i listen to them.bkn kita xbg solid food.

    • //

      Kan? Bengang maximum.

  • //

Aiya, as long as the boys are healthy, being slim is a good sign. Don’t want to have problems with their weight at such young age. =)

  • //

You are so right! You are skinny and Ayden is just right.

  • //

You should reply those people with “Nah, he is not skinny, you are just fat”.

  • //

My girls are skinny, even now they are still very skinny and many tell me so. Those people who usually comment people kid skinny, their kids are always chubby one.

But, I ignore them, as long as the child is healthy, skinny isn’t a problem. Better still, no need to work so out to lose weight when growing up. Unlike me, I have gone through a tough time to stay slim one.
