Brought the family to the 1st Subang International Air Carnival 2014 at the all-new Subang Skypark today.
Themed “Transforming Malaysia’s Aerospace Education & Career Opportunities”, the carnival sees participation of more than 53 local and international aviation players as well as training academies and government agencies. Among the 53 companies that take part include Firefly, Malindo Air, NADI, Air Asia, CTRM Aviation, the Malaysian Armed Forces, Systematic Aviation Services, Bell Helicopters, MAS Wings, Hawker Pacific, Department of Civil Avaitio, various flying academies, flying clubs, institutions of higher learning, universities and aeronautical training centres.
We get to see, touch and enter helicopters and airplane cockpits for real. There’s also helicopter joyrides at RM150 per person.
On board PDRM’s helicopter, flying off to some prison in a remote island? :P
Ethan in the cockpit with Captain James Tan
We also managed to meet up with Captain James Anthony Tan and his plane. Captain James Tan is the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world.
Captain James’ Dream Flight is recorded and endorsed by The Malaysia Book of Records.
Ethan on an air glider. They sell flying packages at discounted rates here so go grab some if you are game enough.
If you are afraid to go on the real air glider, you can always try the simulator provided by aDmaL Aviation College. Ethan crashed the first few rounds but after that he flew like a pro :)
Not too sure why but Ethan loves this plane. Maybe it’s as small as him :D
Melaka Air. Can you spot ME? ^_^
Ethan in a what’s this? A rescue helicopter? Correct me if I’m wrong-lah. Am not very familiar with all these.
Ethan on a rescue mission ^_^
He even got to be in the helicopter cockpit.
With the Calibrator.
Darling’s private plane. Heh.

We did not manage to catch the flying displays today but we did manage to see fly-passes by commercial airlines. The thing is we don’t know the exact time for the flying displays so it is a little hassle to stick around and keep waiting as I have a 9 month old baby tagging along and it is kinda hot over here. I was there from morning until about 1pm and the latest I heard the display was around 3-5pm. Argh! Nevermind, I’ll try to go again tomorrow and catch it!
Ok now let’s be clear about the location. It is NOT at the old Subang airport. It is at Skypark Regional Aviation Centre in Section U3, Shah Alam. For those who are using Google map or Waze just type in – SPACE U8 Eco Mall and once you are there, you’ll be able to see DB Schenker Logistic. Turn left and you have arrived your destination :)
