Sushi Zanmai @ Sunway Pyramid

When it comes to choosing a place to eat, there are 2 types of people in this world. One who will go to eateries with the longest queue and join the line and the other who will enter the almost empty eatery so he/she will get served immediately. The person who joins the longest queue does so because he believes it is worth queuing because there is good food waiting for him in there; hence the long queue.

I am, unfortunately, the ‘other person’ who goes into any eatery provided there is a vacant seat for us as I dislike waiting especially with two kids in tow. But all that changed last weekend. I’ve heard so much about Sushi Zanmai but has never stepped foot there because of the most obvious reason… the QUEUE!

It was the school holidays and we were in Sunway Pyramid. Ethan said he was craving for sushi so I suggested Sushi Zanmai but lo and behold, look at that queue!

Sushi Zanmai

Luckily we were told that we do not need to wait long as the queue is moving rather quickly. Darling and Ethan queued while I brought Ayden to the nursing room and once we were done, it was already our turn! Yeay!

Sushi Zanmai Sunway Pyramid

It doesn’t look too spacious from outside but once inside, whoa, I’m impressed! We did not sit here though. We were given a private room since we have a baby in a stroller.

We began our late lunch with my favourite salmon sashimi.

Sushi Zanmai Salmon Sashimi

Fresh Salmon Sashimi (Large) RM15.00

Just look at how fresh it is. The colour and texture is just perfect!

Sushi Zanmai AburiZanmai

AburiZanmai (RM13.80)

We ordered this assorted broiled sushi of salmon, scallop, prawn, cuttlefish, omelette with cod roe and oyster to share but Ethan had most of them. Most of the items here are half grilled.

Sushi Zanmai Mentaiko Spider

Darling also ordered this Mentaiko Spider Roll (RM13.80).

Deep fried soft shell crab rolled in nori sheet and rice. Wrapped in Vietnamese spring roll skin and topped with avocado and cod roe mayonnaise. We super love this and will definitely order this again on our future visit.

Sushi Zanmai Oyster Grilled with Cheese

I had this Kaki Cheese Yaki (RM6.80)

Fresh juicy oyster grilled with cheese.

Sushi Zanmai Cheese Grilled Oyster

It had stir-fried enoki and shitake mushrooms in it. Topped with oyster and mozzarella cheese and grilled. The cheese compliments the oyster perfectly!

For our main dish, we had spicy ramen and rice.

Sushi Zanmai Spicy Ramen

Spicy Ramen (Large) RM19.80

It’s ramen noodles with kimchi-based soup. To me, this is pretty mild as I’m a hardcore spicy fan but it suits Darling well.

Sushi Zanmai Seafood treasure

Seafood Treasure RM15.80

What was meant to be Darling’s ended up being mine because he ate my kimchi noodles. I love this nutritious hot pot of prawn, scallop, oyster, cod fish, abalone mushroom and broccoli served with a bowl of rice.

Sushi Zanmai Choco Banana Parfait

Ethan’s ‘main’ dish is this Choco Banana Parfait (RM15.00)

LoL just kidding. Ethan shared my rice with seafood treasure and the 3 of us shared this vanilla and chocolate ice cream with cookie crunch, corn flakes and chocolate sauce, topped with sliced banana.

Sushi Zanmai World of Cravings

Ethan had a fun time digging in. It has been quite some time since we last lazed around and ate to our hearts’ content. Since the beginning of this year, Ethan had been very busy with school and all his extra activities we hardly have time to sit back and enjoy our meal.

Today we realised that no matter how busy we are, it is very important to have some time to relax and eat without any rush. A family that eats together, stays together.

Me too, I choose the one without queue. The salmon sashimi looks so good and luckily I just had this evening. :)

:O I forgot to order chawanmushi! Been ages since I had that >_<

  • //

Wow, wrapping sushi in Vietnamese spring roll skin is something new. Matthias will love these-sushi n Vietnamese spring rolls, two of his fav food! Might give it a try..
Yes, yes, it is important to have at least a meal together as a family daily. :)

    • //

Glory, it was my first time eating it that way too. I remembered seeing the pic of your homemade Vietnamese spring rolls and they sure look yummy. I’m sure Matthias will love this too :)

I hate long queues but for good food, I dont mind as long as my tummy can hold. Better dont go on empty and grumbling tumny. Haha.

that cheesy oysters are tempting. I would eat that a lot!

    • //

Oh yes agree with you. I’ll never queue with an empty tummy. We just had brunch that’s why still can queue ^_^

  • //

I love eating Sushi Zanmai! But usually the queue is long, compared to Pasta Zanmai~

    • //

I havent try Pasta Zanmai. Must try soon!

  • //

I don’t mind the long queue but it depends on how desperate I am lah haha..

I haven’t tried Sushi Zanmai didn’t know Pyramid ada…always go sakae sushi.

    • //

You have to go through Parkson. It’s above Kim Gary.

  • //

I ve tried Sushi Zanmai once in The Garden, and yes I need to queue (very rare occasion I did this, but because my friend insisted on it, so I waited) and yes the queue was quite fast. And YES the food were nice. And of course with a price too. The sushi there was superb. I will miss it as my hubby dont like sushi

I never understand why ppl queue to get into Sushi Zanmai until I ate here. I think the freshness in the ingredients used and prompt service kept the crowd coming back.

Nvm your hubby is not a fan. We go for a girls’ lunch one day :)

  • //

I hate queues!! So I have never gone back to Sushi Zanmai since my first time there. LOL!

    • //

Eh Foong, but this queue quiet fast moving right? I wont mind queuing again but must make sure the kids are not famished and tired. So I guess it’s best to go ard 11am, just after breakfast, before the lunch crowd.

  • //

i surely won’t go to Sushi Zanmai lah, and also puzzled why so many people are queuing outside and die die want to go in makan, haha!! been there once when there was no queue out there, but i am more interested in her sister the Pasta Zanmai, less people and the food are also nicer..

    • //

Ahh.. Heard a lot about Pasta Zanmai too. Must make my way there one of these days. I’m impressed with Sushi Zanmai’s salmon sashimi. It’s very fresh. William doesnt fancy sashimi but surprisingly he ate the salmon here.

  • //

Queue? No, thank you. Nothing can be that good… I would rather go elsewhere for something half as nice.

  • //

I’ll alternatively choose their sister restaurant, Pasta Zanmai which has shorter / no queue :)

  • //

If short q then I’ll try the next time we catch Aeroline bus from Sunway Pyramid lah. Thanks for recommending!
