Milk Choke
It was 12 midnight, way pass Ethan’s usual bedtime at 9pm yet he is still unable to sleep. Strangely, Ayden was still wide awake too.
We let Ethan play the piano a little bit more to tire him off before finally going into our respective rooms at 12.30midnight.
During my confinement, I sleep with my mom and Ayden in a room while Darling remained with Ethan in another room.
Ayden was still unable to sleep; drinking milk and crying in frustration in between. At 2am he showed signs of hunger again so I let him latch on. As I was feeding him (though sleepy to the max I still kept my eyes on him), I noticed milk squirting out of his nostril. I was wiping it away when I realised he was motionless. That was when I knew he was choking! I slapped him hard on his back while crying out loud, “Choke! Choke!” My mom quickly took him away from me and continued slapping his back further until he started to breathe again.
All that happened in just a split second. That was however the longest second of my life. My heart skipped a beat and I broke into cold sweat. It was the scariest moment that I never want to be repeated, ever!
Ayden finally slept at 2.45am but I am unable to close my eyes anymore. I kept looking at him making sure he is breathing nicely. I don’t think I can sleep tonight…
I’m curious, maybe it’s the position? Hmm
Lvynana,
Ayden minum gelojoh sangat until it came out from his nose and then he choked :(
Hope it doesn’t happen again..I was so gan jeong reading what happened to Ayden..luckily he is ok now.
Haiyor!!! Immediately after feeding, pat on the back till he burps…to prevent choking or “get the wind out” of his system. 2nd one already, still dunno kah…or too long ago, forgotten liao. See your mum knows what to do – old mums never forget one – they know best!
But I remember my time – if crying, I did not worry…feeding time, pujuk-pujuk…get the brat to go back to sleep…but if no sound, I would get worried – use torchlight to check…still breathing or not! Muahahahahahaha!!!!
I know the burping part it’s just that Ayden choked DURING feeding. That made me panic…
Maybe the hole in the tit, I mean, teat too big. Oops!!! Forgot! He’s still being breast-fed, isn’t he? Must be really delicious, so nice,,. must suck suck fast fast one. Muahahahahahaha!!!!
OMG! I panicked when I read your post. So good to hear that everything is OK. Yes. I understand your emotion at that point in time.
OMG! So scary! :( Hope it wont happen again.. D:
Wah that sounds really scary! Thank God you and your mum were around that time.
oh dear. really scared the shit out of you! poor thing.
It is the worst nightmare a mom could have.
Luckily your mum is watching and stay close and nothing happened to Ayden. Just be careful when feeding him.
I also worry about thus choking stuff so no matter how sleepy and tired I am I will stay alert when feeding my baby.
Oh my, that was one scary experience. Must always keep an eye on young babies during feeding. We’ve read so many stories about babies who choked to death (by milk) in child care centres or in the care of nannies.
god bless your mum is there for you . . .
Choke while drinking the milk? It’s rare right? Must be scary indeed!! By the way, the opening of this post sounds like a horror story telling LOL!
You watched too many horror movie dy, this panda! >_<
I had experienced numerous time of milk choke with my eldest daughter whose stomach could not hold milk, she would still throw out milk even after burping..there were times she vomitted milk like fountains..milk came out from her nose and mouth, struggled to breath after that. It took 3 months + for her stomach to become stronger to hold the milk..
I was like you, kept awake to make sure our babies are alright..
Good to hear that Ayden is fine. Normally latch on babies do not choke. We never really burp him when he latch on. But when he is fed on bottles, we will ensure he burp before we lay him down.
Glad to know that Ayden is alright after that, phew~
OMG, scary experience betullah Merryn! Hopefully it won’t happen again. Never. Baca pun I dah takut …
aiyoh, that’s scary!! luckily all went well now and baby Ayden is growing up healthily i supposed.. aih, tough being a mom yeah?? always have to worry about the kids.. :)
