Cute turtle icebox cookies

Ethan wanted to do some baking so I let him browse the net for whatever cookies he wished to bake. Of all the many cookies out there, he chose this one cute turtle icebox cookies from Diamonds for Dessert! I was horrified when he showed me as I can foresee that it will be very hard to make. So I asked this young baker, XiangCool if he can help us out and gladly he said YES.

Darling drove us to his house that day..

Ethan measuring sugar.

Sifting and measuring icing sugar with Kor kor Xiang. Malaysia Boleh tu, don’t play-play!

Creaming the butter and sugar together.

After adding egg yolks and flour to the mixture, we split the dough in half. We added matcha (green tea) powder to one portion.

This is after rolling the matcha dough and trying to wrap it around the normal dough.

Freeze it for a while and it will harden like this.

Slice it and arrange on a baking tray.

Here is Ethan rolling another portion of dough for the turtle’s flippers and tail.

He pokes the dough using a ‘Gongcha’ straw. LoL! Buta-buta endorsing that bubble tea pulaks! >_< Anyway, that straw helps to make small round dough for the legs.

Ethan patiently joining the little feet onto the turtles while Xiang prepared dinner.

I helped Ethan decorate the shells while he adds the eyes and into the oven it goes..

My verdict? I’ll NEVER bake this again! My gawd, so tedious, so much JOB! You know how lousy I am in baking? This is too much for me to handle. While Ethan enjoyed the experience, he also got a bit tired of the long waiting period (freezing the dough and so on).

Baking with little kids needs to be quick and simple. Though this icebox cookies is cute, it is definitely NOT for kids.

Kids can do something more simple like this CUTE DOGGIES COOKIES

P/S: No turtles were harm in the making of this entry :P

I like the idea of making turtle ice box cookies….

p/s: lesson for you – do not overestimate yourself and underestimate kids.. next time, filter accordingly to your capability before asking him to choose “whatever” he like.. hahaha~~ :p
