Hop-On Hop-Off KL

During the long weekend break, Darling decided to try being a tourist getting around KL. What better way than to Hop On Hop Off KL? If you are a smart tourist, you’ll definitely not want to flag for a cab in the heart of KL as the crazy jam will make the journey very costly in the end. I’m so used to be driven around KL that it is such a welcoming change to be hopping on and off a bus instead! Why the sudden craze to be a tourist you ask me? It all started with Ethan requesting to ride on a double-decker bus. Rarely or should I say NEVER did we get that opportunity to ride on a double-decker bus and the only double-decker that we know IS the Hop-On Hop-Off bus!

As I was googling for Hop-On Hop-Off service, I found out that they were having a Buy 1 Free 1 promo during Ramadhan and so happens last Saturday was the LAST day of Ramadhan!

We drove to KL Bird Park and parked our car there. Parking is free there :D We went to stop #15 to wait for the bus.

About ten minutes of waiting, the bus appeared. We saw this smiley chap in PINK greeting us cheerfully.

Because we are MyKAD holders, Darling need to pay only RM19 for both he and I. On usual days he would have paid double that amount! The RM19 ticket is valid for 24 hours while if you opt for 48 hours you’ll need to pay RM32. Non MyKAD holders will need to pay RM38 (24 hours) and RM65 (48 hours) respectively. You can purchase the tickets in the bus itself.

The moment we went up on the upper deck Ethan was so happy! He got super excited when he saw the other bus outside is lower than him! :D

With approximately 23 stops (if I did not count wrongly) you better plan your route accordingly before hopping ON. A Hop-On Hop-Off (HOHO) will travel about 2 1/2 hours to complete a tour so if you missed a stop, say KLCC and really need to get there, you’ll have to follow the bus till the end of the ride and back to KLCC and that will cost you 2 1/2 hours.

From our starting point at KL Bird Park we did not stop anywhere until KLCC. We hop off KLCC for lunch and also hoping that the next bus we catch will be the one with the open deck as the first bus we took is not :(

Ethan loves this beautiful Hari Raya decor in KLCC.

After having our lunch in KLCC, we waited for the next HOHO bus and luck is on our side because we saw an open deck bus in front of our eyes! Yeay, we quickly board that bus!

Let’s see where the bus brought us. Most of the pictures are taken on board the moving bus.

Ethan with a bunch of Germans at the observation deck on the HOHO bus.

So happy Ethan and Darling on the bus at Bukit Bintang area. Yeah, I was running behind chasing after the bus just to get this shot! :P

One of the stop includes KL’s Chinatown – Petaling Street.

We saw this beautiful WAU at Kasturi Walk. We did not Hop Off here though.

We passed KL Old Railway Station too. I got this shot from the moving bus. Thank goodness I still managed to get a clear shot :D

We saw Little India too but again we did not hop off because Ethan is anxious to go to this one particular place where you can see horses! Guess where? :D

YES! Istana Negara. We hop off here to get a tour around Istana Negara.

Ethan’s dream came true; seeing this horse in person. He also gets to see the horse poop -.-

We ended our Hop-On Hop-Off tour at KL Bird Park again because our car is there.  We did not enter KL Bird Park that day because it was already late at 4.30pm. We’ve been there for 3 times previously and Ethan enjoyed every moment of it.

Time to bid farewell to HOHO. It was fun touring KL in this semi-glass roof double deck bus. With insightful on-board commentary, I understand KL better now :D

Ethan gave his thumbs up and already requesting us to take him for a ride again. I told him to wait for next year if they’ll have the Buy 1 Free 1 offer again or not :P

I’ve always wanted to get on it but dunno how to go about it… Can just get on board at any stop and pay? Where’s the stop at Bukit Bintang?

Nice article…been wanting to know more about the HOHO buses. I thought all HOHO buses comes with partial open deck. Is that the new Istana Negara? How long it took you to wait for the next HOHO bus to arrive at Istana Negara? Very good info for me coz having very important visitors fr States very soon.

      Yvonne,

Not all HOHO buses comes with observation deck. On the day we went hopping, only ONE open deck bus is available so you can imagine our delight when we caught it in KLCC! The odds are like soooo rare yet we got it! :D

At certain places, the HOHO bus waits for about 10 mins in case you just want to hop off to take pictures. You can hop on again or just wait for the next bus about 20-30mins later.
