Ethan’s first charity outing with underprivileged kids

Several days ago, I found out that Genting is organising a Charity Movie Screening event for underprivileged children to enjoy a fun day out at the resorts along with Genting’s social media fans! Immediately I volunteered (through Nuffnang) myself and Ethan for that. It’s the school holidays so I thought it will be a good idea for Ethan and I to give back to society.

We were required to buy gifts for the children. One gift per person so Ethan and I bought two gifts :D

Ethan was unwell the day before and I was so worried that we would have to give this event a miss at the very last minute but thank goodness Ethan recovered just in time. Instead of joining the bus up to Genting on that early Friday morning, Darling decided to drive us up straight to First World Hotel and drive back down straight to work so that Ethan does not have to wake up too early since he has just recovered.

We joined the rest of the bloggers, media fans and of course the kids from St Barnabas Home, Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Kurang Upaya Kirtarsh and Rumah K.I.D.S  for breakfast before heading for the movie screening of Men In Black in 3D.

Lunch at First World Cafe

We had lunch at First World Cafe.

There is this boy Romi, a 15 year old  resident of Kirtash who bonded with Ethan instantly from the very first time they met. Coincidentally we sat next to his table during lunch. He got very excited and kept initiating conversation with Ethan. He is very chatty and Ethan loves him.

Blogger Vin Tsen from vincephilosophy.com and his partner were really great that day. They made the effort to get to know the kids and really spend quality time with them. It’s a beautiful sight seeing them bonding and laughing the afternoon away.

After lunch, it was time to give out our gifts to the kids.

I smiled when I saw the happy faces of the kids opening their presents but I don’t know what to react when I saw the above. One ‘wicked’ media fans decided to wrap his/her present in an iPhone 3G box. The kid got the shock of his life when he unwrapped his gift to see an iPhone 3G box! He shouted so loud that his friends ran towards him. They all thought he was very LUCKY! He quickly opened the box only to find a toy robot in it and they all burst out laughing!  Well… at least they had a good laugh and as they say, it’s the thought that counts! -.-

What we did not expect however was…

For us to be presented with gift and certificate of participation too by the nice people from Genting Resorts World at the end of the day. That was a pleasant surprise! Ethan kept telling me that he did not know that he will get a gift too and I said yeah.. me neither. That was very sweet of them. Thank you Genting CARE team for these :)

A group picture before we adjourned to the THEME PARK.

My son turned into an adult overnight! Hehe..

Unfortunately though, the kids are much older than Ethan and none of them wanted to play what Ethan wants to play. They prefer the extreme rides while Ethan goes to kiddie rides. So that marks the end of our journey together with the underprivileged kids for the day.

Ethan had his share of fun at the indoor and outdoor theme park.

He goes to all his usual favourite rides. We go up to Genting Theme Park like every month because we have the Annual Passport ^_^

He spends a considerable amount of time at the playground before heading for other rides.

We left Genting at 7pm. It was a memorable day for both Ethan and I. Ethan told me he is very lucky. I am not too sure what he meant by that but I know today has been an eye-opener for him. It was his first time mingling with underprivileged kids and we had fun.

Kudos to the good people of Genting for organising this. It inspires us to participate more in charity event. It feels good to be able to give back to those who are not as privileged as we are.

Oooo…what lovely kids! Aren’t there people who would want to adopt them? Some do not look like special kids. Are they all?
