Awarded BaoBei’s exemplary student (模 范 生)

Earlier this week, Ethan came home smiling from ear to ear. He only smiles that wide upon completing one stage and proceeding to the next. He has been in BaoBei for 9 months now and he is in stage E at the moment. I thought he has completed stage E and is already in F but he said not yet, a little bit more to go. I wonder then, why that big grin?

Then he told me that he has been awarded BaoBei’s exemplary student (模 范 生). I did not quite get what he meant. The next day his teacher told me about it so I went to get a picture :D

His teacher told me to look for his name on the board and I was like, “Where?” when she pointed out to me his name. Owh, it was written in Chinese! I mana tau! *shy*

According to his teachers, an exemplary student does not only excel in his studies but is obedient, helpful, caring, lovable and more. His teachers said he often helped them to teach the younger kids and is very well-behaved in class! (I wonder if they are talking about the right ETHAN! MY Ethan?)

I’m glad they did not only prioritize academic achievement but the student’s overall performance as well as what is most important in kids these young is to shape them into being good human beings. In the quest for academic excellence, more often than not we overlook the most important factor – the child’s EQ.

How often do schools award a child who greets his teacher every morning, uses the magic word ‘Please’, ‘Thank you’ and ‘You are Welcome’?

I’ve seen BaoBei work wonders with Ethan as they emphasize a lot on encouragement. Ethan is already conversing in Mandarin with his Dad, my in-laws and his friends. He can pick a book at the bookstore and read it himself. Though the fees are slightly on the higher side, it’s worth the money as I see results in the shortest time possible.

Ethan’s word card. They are allowed to bring home the word cards once they’ve mastered it. He has mastered close to 400 words now.

Congrats my boy. Mummy’s so proud of you :)

And I truly agree and really like Ethan’s school’s focus on the non-academic aspects but values and character traits which are definitely much more important (IMHO) in nurturing the young. :)

Congrats to Ethan! It also shows that mommy and daddy did a great job in bringing him up. Vic was in Bao Bei last year to prepare her for standard one. I don’t recall her centre practice exemplary award, which is a good thing, but they organized many trips and outings.
