Blanched Bean Sprout Recipe
Darling loves eating Nga Choi Kai (Bean Sprouts Chicken) and we pay like RM2 for a plate of blanched beansprout which I think is ridiculous knowing how cheap beansprout is in the market!
As usual, I’ll try to learn to prepare dishes that either Darling or Ethan loves. Yesterday, I tried dishing out blanched beansprout and I think it’s quite alright as Darling said I managed to get the correct texture with the right crunch! Weeet!
Ingredients:
* Bean Sprout
* Sesame Oil
* Soy Sauce
* Oyster Sauce
* White Pepper
* Spring onion for garnishing
Method:
To blanch bean sprouts, bring water to boil.
Blanch for like 10 seconds? Drain and plunge into cold water.
Drain again before using.
Drizzle with sesame oil and soy sauce, and a smidge of white pepper.
Garnish with spring onions and golden garlic/onion.
Serve.
Last time Bean Sprout is like 20cent for kg.. now now.. dunno anymore..
Now everything oso expensive lah..
I like nya choy gai too :)
Don’t we all? Sedap oooooo….
Yummmmm!!!! I love bean sprouts like that – nice and crunchy, not overcooked.
Same same! Me love it that way too <3
Oh, we just had this a few days ago… love it too! The blanching part is easy but I just can’t get the seasoning right… it just doesn’t taste the same. I guess the missing ingredient must be MSG haha :p
Sometimes I cheat and add a lil oyster sauce! ^_^
Sedap! Yes, it’s very cheap in the market…RM2 can have lots of plates of nga choi at home :)
Can have it at least THREE times!
Nothing worths more than an acknowledgement and compliment by your own spouse. Thumbs up!
:D
i love nga choi..but i hate the peeling backside part…u know the tail..normally u need to tear it off. so i will hv my nga choi at the stores ;p
I know! When I was younger I dreaded the time my mom came back from market. Surely we kena remove the taugeh’s end… @_@
Yes that is how I cook it too…. either quick stir fry or just blanch and season! :-)
I used to stir fry but William doesn’t like it. Now I blanch it, he likes :D
your husband must be very happy to have such a good wife like you! =P
Nah.. he’s suffering! He wished he can still eat out instead of me trying to feed him my COOKING! :D
What coincidence! I just took a plate of bean sprouts this evening… but not home cooked but eaten in coffeeshop!
Bean sprouts are good. Cheap and nutritious :)
Stir fried taugeh…i love it. Simple n easy to cook.
Mery,
I did not stir fry it. I blanched it. William does not fancy the stir fried version :)
yummeh! Hubster loves this too and he thinks its absurd to pay so much for what is so cheap to buy and cook. I supposed the skills part is expensive?
Gonna try this soon with some claypot rice that I am thinking of cooking:D But I need to find those fat stubby sprouts like those we eat in Ipoh. Any idea where to get it in KL?
this has been on our weekly dinner menu. my family loves to eat this. very easy to prepare n healthy :)
Yumz!! so its bean sprout for our dinner tomorrow!
