BlackBall ‘Original Taiwanese Tea & Dessert’

There is this lane in SS15, Subang Jaya that is loaded with Taiwanese dessert house!

Take your pick – Chatime, Snowflake or BlackBall?

I’ve tried Chatime *not a fan* and needless to say I’m a die-hard addict of Snowflake so should I try BlackBall?

To try or not to try? That is the question… OF COURSE MUST TRY-lah! How else would I know if it is any good or not right?

First and foremost, though BlackBall company started back in 2006, has bloomed and now stands as one of the biggest dessert chains in Taipei with over 20 outlets and still expanding, people automatically associate it with Snowflake and inevitably will be compared to Snowflake.

The first thing I requested was for some Soya dessert but ehem sorry, they don’t serve soya here. It’s either Grass Jelly series, BlackBall Crushed Ice or Red Bean Ice. I chose Red Bean Ice.

Red Bean Ice with Barley and Lotus Seed (RM6.50) add Sky Pearl (RM1.00)

I’m such a BEAN fan hence my fascination with Soya Bean but since they don’t have Soya, I chose RED bean! Well, if you can’t have white, you can still have RED right? :D My curiosity made me topped up Sky Pearl for an additional RM1.

Their shaved ice is rather coarse as I prefer my ice to be super fine and smooth. But what is worth mentioning is EVERY BlackBall combo comes with Taro Balls and Pearls meaning you do not have to add on for Taro Balls! Their pearls deserve some credit too as they are very nicely chewy. I do hope that they’ll maintain the quality of the pearls over the long run unlike some Taiwanese milk tea chain that deteriorate over time.

Grass Jelly Ice with brown sugar and sweetened bean (RM6.50)

The Grass Jelly is their signature dessert so I ordered that for Darling. MUST try their best seller right? It comes with a very thick slab of grass jelly. Not too bad but when they say sweetened bean they really mean it as their beans are a tad too sweet for my liking.

Jiu Fen Taro Ball Crushed Ice (RM6.50)

Ethan had Jiu Fen Taro Ball Crushed Ice. It is shaved ice ala Ice Kacang and recommended to be taken with brown sugar.

I poured some brown sugar to the shaved ice for just the right amount of sweetness as the toppings are already sweet to begin with. Their kidney bean is seriously sweet!

The rest of the foodie gang had these…

Grass Jelly Hot with Green Bean and Barley (RM6.50)

Their signature Grass Jelly series also comes in HOT version. See that green bean block? That is a nice bite with rich earthy flavor.

Grass Jelly Ice with Brown Sugar Jelly and Sweetened Taro (RM6.50)

Ahh.. this has that green bean topping that I love!

Cranberry Crushed Ice with Milk (RM6.50) add Aloe Vera (RM1)

And then it is Bubble Tea time! Just the day before I had FIVE Chatime drinks and vowed NOT to touch any more bubble tea for at least a week but here I am, just a day after.. having the time of my life with MORE tea! Hehe..

BlackBall Tea galore!

Ethan’s favourite – BOBA Milk Tea (RM5.90)

Look at the pearls going up into his mouth! Shiok-nyer he! I find BlackBall’s Milk Tea better than those I had yesterday at you know where as the one I had here has that stronger tea flavor to it so it doesn’t feel like I’m drinking only sugar =__=

Sunny and his choice of Signature ‘Xian Cao’ Tea with Grass Jelly (RM5.90)

Dessert khakis having a BALL of a time!

I can’t believe that they actually brought their toys over to BlackBall! >_<

Like as if the place is not crowded enough! We saw great crowd that night, full house even! BlackBall has THE advantage here in SS15 as they are located on the ground floor where else their neighbouring Snowflake is at level.. ONE? Old and rusty people like me will just walk straight into BlackBall instead of climbing that dreaded stairs up to Snowflake.. :(

Anyway, though I’m still a Snowflake fan, I’ll be BACK here for their Milk Tea for sure!
