Building tunnels, connecting tots

Have you ever wondered why books for new born babies focused mainly on touch, visual and sound? I remembered getting many of those sensory books for Ethan when he was younger. That was because when I was pregnant I read that when babies are born, their brains are ready to learn. As babies grow, they learn many things, but they do not acquire new brain cells. They do not get new muscles, either.
Ethan @ 1Y 3M
What happens however is that the muscles in a baby’s arms and legs will develop as she gets older and matures. In the same way, the cells in the brain will also grow and develop. Muscles must be used to become stronger. The same is true with the brain. Children need to use their brains to learn to think.

We are born with 100 billions brain cells, waiting to be connected!
Gangliosides help brain cells connect for faster learning. Naturally, ganglioside can be found in breast milk. Nature and nurture together help a baby make brain connections and make the connections strong.
You know how Ethan and I are always using toilet paper rolls for crafts, right? Combine that with the needs of our Craft Studio, we need lots and lots of toilet paper rolls each month! Thankfully, I have the best father around! He will without fail, go around his work place reminding his colleagues to collect those toilet rolls and placed them in a special bin. At the end of the month, he’ll bring them home and once a month I’ll collect it from him!
Each time after collecting those toilet paper rolls, Ethan will help me arrange them and we will then keep them in the Studio.
Remember I mentioned how Ethan chose his own Christmas gift last year – the Thomas Chugs Along Set? Well, he wasn’t very pleased to learn that the set does not come with tunnels. He loves tunnels you see. It always amazes him whenever his Daddy drove him through tunnels :D

But just yesterday Ethan requested me to cut several large toilet rolls into halves. He then took a marker and drew on those toilet paper rolls. I was wondering what he wanted to do with them when I saw him placing those toilet paper rolls onto the tracks! Amazing! He has just built tunnels for his train set! I then realised how brain cells connection actually helps Ethan build those tunnels, building pathways to a brighter future.

I managed to make a video of him building his first ever tunnel *beaming with pride :D*

It was also my very first time making a movie video, so forgive me if the video is of mediocre quality. But come give me some face and spare a couple of minutes and watch this video with me, will you?
