Mass Rapid Transit in Singapore
In Malaysia, I hardly or I can safely say that I never need to take any public transportation should I need to go anywhere. I’m blessed to have a full-time driver who drives me around :P
In Singapore however, we had no choice but to take the public transport. On our first 2 days in Singapore, we were not bold enough to try the MRT. We went around by cab, but after being pestered by my friends saying that we cannot declare ourselves having been in Singapore if we did not try the MRT, we finally did it. We finally took the MRT!
The Mass Rapid Transit or MRT is a rapid transit system that forms the backbone of the railway system in Singapore, spanning the entire city-state.
It was surprisingly very efficient and user friendly! I got used to it from the very first ride. I can even switch from red line to yellow to whatever! LoL!
Once in Vivo City, an Indian national asked me how to get to Marina Bay by MRT, I could answer him! Woo lah! ME SO CLEVER :P
The MRT tickets
But alas… knowing Merryn, whenever she declares she’s clever, you KNOW there’s something STUPID behind that awesome declaration!
See this General Ticketing Machine? See the red square there? Can you read what is written there? Yours truly here never bothered to read anything. All I did was to purchase our tickets and go. On our forth day in Singapore, Darling overheard someone asking about a ‘refund’. What refund?
Jeng Jeng Jeng… the ticket deposit refund-lah! We were unaware that the tickets can be refunded for S$1 each! I don’t remember the LRT system in Malaysia having any refund, do they?
Thank goodness Darling did not throw away our previous tickets and when we checked, we had at least like.. 10 or more of them! :D So it was a fun time refunding our tickets with coins dropping – Ka Ching, Ka Ching, Ka Ching.. It was as if we have hit the Jackpot! :P
Anyway, make long story short, we are way much smarter now. Drop me anywhere in Singapore and I will SURVIVE! LoL! Like as if! Throw me in the Safari and I’ll cry I tell you!
Finally, my post won’t be complete without Ethan. Here he is entertaining himself while waiting for the next ride :D
In case you missed it, here’s a list of where we went in Singapore
3 ) Merlion Park
4 ) Marina Food Loft
6 ) Imbiah Lookout

I used the MRT to get around in Singapore – very convenient, very efficient, very nice…and I'm sad to say that I've never used the LRT in KL – one look at it already puts me off…and the monorail neither.
STP – As much as I hate to admit coz I don't wanna sound like I'm anti Msia, I oso never used the LRT or monorail.. except once long long time ago when the ayam bertelor.. and that one time is enuf to put me off :(
I would say Spore has the most convenient public Transport….with Bus,mrt and lrt..you can reach to anywhere in Spore. But make sure to avoid during peak hours….super packed like sardine fishes.
ya…u r too gan cheong. They implemented this rule so that ppl remember to return the cards…recycling, save cards/save money.
MRT there more convenient than hereyatie, sawanila.com
better late than never.. haha…how about the bus? it is equally good too.

Real easy to go around Singapore. Everything so systematic!
yeah, the MRT in SG is really very convenient, that's why a lot of them commute with MRT.. unlike our LRT here, haiz~~~hahahaha!! luckily you still keep the ticket huh, or else you really throw away lots of money~~ :D
ya..the last time when I met my friend, we took MRT too..very convenient.
so funny but this is my first time to know what MRT really stands for… hahah well, i used to call the train simply as MRT without knowing the actual meaning of that acronym LOL
that reminds me to pay more attention to reading too! I am not too fond of reading everything too! lol
